A964: dialup problems and ink problems

Good day

#1Connected the telephone cord for fax on my new a964, the dialup connection speed went down by  +/- 50%   (49.2 to 22.8).............. What was done: Tel. line from wall to Pc , from pc to printer for fax and then printer to phone for desk uses. I had to disconnect the line to printer and kept only pc direct to phone.

#2 This printer does terrific photos but the ink doesn't dry enough. After 7 days of drying, I had the misfortune of dropping a drop of water on one of the photo...........that spot became yellow and the photo was thus ruined.   Is it a bad batch of ink or what ? I checked with a neighbor, he has an Epson printer, no such problems.

I live in Florida but these days it's not too damp.

Anyone for explanations....
Many thanks

90% of the inkjet printers use almost identical ink. It takes a while to dry completely especially in Fla.(I've lived there) I have had Epsons, PB, HP, Canons, Compac, and a half dozen other brands of ink jets. The ink is water base and all would get a spot with water drops. There are some different special ink you can get for photos and other uses that dry waterproof. Last night I did 60 8x10 color photos on my 922 and they were dry enough to stack this morning. Often, probably with different color paper, I have waited two or more days for them to dry enough to stack. I brought a couple of them to work with me this morning so when I saw your post I thought I'd make a test. I put a number of large drops of water on them expecting a large spot to be left. But when it dried there was no mark at all. I even tried to smear the ink with water and it was like it was waterproof. I'll bet it has something to do with the paper.

The photo ink sounds like it may be bad as it should not take more then at most 24 hr's to dry and that a extreme case.

As far as the phone issue try running the phone cord from the wall to printer then printer to computer and phone on desk to other jack on computer modem. Also make sure you have no splitter running on the phone jack at the wall. Make sure no phone cords are more then 6ft-10ft  if possble.

Also the speed shown when you connect is not always correct you might just be getting a little line noise from somewhere causing computer to report speed incorrect however it most likely should not effect your dial up speed well surfing the web.

The printhead that is found in the 964 is identical to the one found in william_the_scot's 924 printer.  The ink drying tendencies will be basically the same between the two models.  That being said, the type and brand of photo glossy paper you are using can dramatically affect ink drying times as well as ink adherence/bonding.  Which type of paper have you been using that are displaying these results?

Good day

Many thanks for these nice replies

I contacted Dell........ here is the story about modem speed:
The printer has a (28) modem which takes over the one inside the Pc which has (56).  thus the slow speed. I have disconnected the tel line to the printer, back at (56).......... If I want to fax then can't use the internet.

For the paper I used Dell High Gloss Premium and National Geographic High Gloss Premiun photo paper.

Thank you for your inquiries.
