AIO 922 automatical alignment problem

I have just replaced an empty black ink cartridge with a new one from Dell (still in packaging, brand new). I have made sure the protective tape was all removed but it still displays the "Automatic Alignment Problem" message. Ignoring the message results in my printouts missing half the text and being very faded. I have wiped the contacts on the cartridge with a tissue and tried a "Clean print cartridge" option but to no avail. The alignment page prints with 2 thick black lines at the top but no black boxes underneath so I guessed the ink is coming out and not dried up. I have the low colour cartridge message appearing as well, could this affect my new black cartridge aligning properly? The alignment page does have blue boxes appearing on it although a little faded. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Violet55,

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the powerbrick for 60 seconds. This will reset any error message the printer is getting. Plug everything back in and power the printer on.

Open the printer with the power on and remove the Dell Series 5 black ink cartridge and make sure the tape is off the cartridge, then reseat the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 5 color cartridge. Now when you close the printer, it should print an alignment page. Any error messages?

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them and cannot be refilled. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges

They can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's website.

Black cartridge = black side(left side)               Color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side)              Color cartridge = color side(right side)

It is also possible to get a new ink cartridge with a bad sensor. Please take it to the place of purchase for a replacement one.

Hello, I am encountering the same phenomena (a few months later). I've changed both cartridges, removed tapes etc.

It was working fine before but now I'm getting an alignment error message after having checked then reinserting everything. Also, the printer panel is saying "Black ink low level" and "color ink low level" alternatively (or something similar) just after power is restored.

I know cartridges are brand new and full of ink (they came into their packages). Isn't there a way to trick the printer if it is a matter of cartridge switch detection? I really need to print urgently (for professional reason) and have no time to wait for a new delivery!

Thanks to the gurus!

AxeldeB,

Are you using Dell Series 5 ink cartridges?

Thanks PudgyOne Rick, but I already performed all those steps prior to sending my first message.

In fact after double-checking cartridges, I see they were refilled; then, after reading the Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges, I could understand what is happening providing the following point assertion is true:

Assumption: When Dell printer's logic  see the cartridge fuse is blown, it will not only display the low ink message, it will prevent circuitry from normal working, i.e. from getting ink flowing as it should, thus causing it to print incorrectly.  Is that right?

Also, last remark: On my Dell 922, I'm not getting the software screens the article above is showing and there is apparently no way to avoid low level messages. FYI, in my screens (in French), it says at the bottom of the Apparence mode window, that in any case low level messages will be displayed.

The solution I will try: Compare/measure wirings between compatible and Dell cartridges to find out which pins are short circuited when cartridges is new, then wire them together by one means or another.

Your feeling?

Thanks,

AxeldeB

AxeldeB,

I made the Wiki but it was edited by a Dell employee. I realize that you cannot  remove the low ink message for refilled cartridges.

Origional Wiki

Why does my Dell ink cartridge level still show up as "low ink" after refilling them?

Dell ink cartridges have a sensor that reports the ink level as low once it reaches a certain level. The sensor can not be reset. If you refill an ink cartridge that previously reported low ink, it may print fine, but the sensor will always report low ink. Buying or replacing ink cartridges with new Dell cartridges will resolve the low ink message.
Edit:
Dell discourages ink refills. Refilling ink may lead to print quality problems, and even eventual hardware problems. This post is in no way a validation of refilling ink cartridges.

Some refilled cartridges work and some don't. You'll almost always get the low ink error message. Other members have a refilled cartridge ready and replace it when the print quality declines. Some use generic cartridges. Some work and some don't. Some you won't even get the error messages at all. I will not recommend which cartridges to use and which ones not to. I tried refilled cartridges a few years ago and found the best print quality with the Brand name cartridges. I usually purchase the high capacity cartridges for a few dollars more and have found that they seem to last a longer time. I still have the cartridges I put in at the begining of the school year and the children, even with printing homework assignments, Myself printing coupons and signatures on over 200 Christmas cards, the cartridges are 50% black and color is 75% full.

Your printer uses Dell Series 5 cartridges. I have also seen some cartridges come withg bad sensors. Take these back to the place of prchase for a replacement.

Thanks PudgyOne, for your concern.

I'll try more when I get time.
