AIO 942 Printer problems: Alignment? Printer skips lines/makes spaces

The 942 prints pages that have horizontal spaces when we print or scan.  The spaces range from 3mm. to 1.3 cm.  (about 1/8 to 1/2 inch.)  and they go across the entire page.  I've tried aligning the printer and cleaning the cartridge.  The black cartridge is new (it had the problem before) and the color cartridge is almost out.

The print will make a horizontal space, then begin again where it left off.  On one page there can be anywhere from 2-3 spaces to 10-12 spaces.  warranty has expired.  Must I send it in for repair, or could we fix it at home some how (does it need a new color cartridge?)?
Thank you

No, I did not physically remove the cartridges to clean them.  I'll try that.  Thanks.

If it is the problem of the printer, that would be a bummer because we have not used it that much, and it is about 3 years old.

I'll buy a new color cartridge also.  I'll let you know of the results in either case.

thanks

If the color cartridge is "out of ink" that MAY be one cause.  Even tho you are only printing in black most printers want to see a good color cartridge.  Whether that's the problem with yours???

Clogged ink jet nozzles can be another problem.  You say you cleaned the cartridges, but did you physically removed them to clean them?  The procedure is to remove the cartridge, soak the nozzle end in a shallow container of warm (not hot) water for about 10 minutes, blot dry, reinstall and do a test print.

Finally, if the unit is out of warranty, and it still will not work, best option is to start looking for a new unit.  Sadly, printers (or all in ones) that are out of warranty (all brands, not just Dell) are like most computer components - mostly not fixable or if you can find someone to fix them or get parts the cost can equal or nearly equal what a new one will cost.
