vryder,

Make and model of your computer and operating system helpful. Also make and model of your printer and how it's connected to your computer.

Yes, it's very possible that it's spyware or a virus (more likely a virus by that kind of effect), but it might also be if you have multiple printers/scanners. I've seen a few times where multiple drivers are put in for various peripherals and one of them may be programed to detect if it's the primary driver or not. Have you verified if it's been deleted or if it's just not being used? The system restore would help to restore the original settings (making one the primary), but if the other is used and makes itself the primary, the first one may not work right again. I've seen both of those possibilities happen.

More information would be the best way for us to diagnose it, but those are the most likely scenarios that I can think of.

vrdyer,

Try disconnecting the printer. Uninstall the printer, then restart your computer.

I looked at Canon's Website for the Drivers for the Canon BJ200EX. BJ Printer Driver version 3.97 for Windows Millennium/98/95/3.x Printer Driver Self Extractor is the one choice, so if you try to use these drivers, you'll need to run them in the compatibility mode. Right click on the drivers, after you download then, left click properties, select compatibility mode. Choose one of those operating systems.

Also look at the second option.

After you install the drivers, you should get a prompt, the printer is not connected. Connect the [printer at this time.

Thanks guys. I previously found the compatible driver the Canon website just as you did. I did not find anything for an NEC 3200 (I was also looking for that). However, I did locate two XP disks....Version I and the Home Edition. I hope those disks have drivers on them if I wind up needing them again. I went to an earlier backup on restore. Although I got a message that the restore was not successful, those drivers were reinstalled again.

I know....everything is too old. But, it works for me right now. The kids computers are more important and need to be kept fairly recent to work in college. Basically, there is no support for my computer and software. There were third party aps, but they look suspicious.

I am going to get an older HP laser printer that has a high volume cartidge. I have noted that some of the business version printers seem to still be out there.
