tylertroutman,

These are Dell Series 5 ink cartridges, correct?

Open the printer with the power on and remove the Dell Series 5 black ink cartridge and make sure the tape is off the cartridge, then reseat the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 5 color cartridge. Now when you close the printer, it should print an alignment page. Any error messages?

Black cartridge = black side(left side)          Color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side)          Color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them and cannot be refilled. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges

They can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's website.

Let me know what happens.

Rick

tylertroutman,

What do you get when you put a document under the glass? Copy in B&W and Color?

They are the Series 5 cartridges.  I did what you indicated above.  I am getting the error that says to remove the tape.  It is off.  Copying a B&W doc from the printer only yields a blank page.  I chatted with a dell tech. he indicated that it may be a software issue.  I didn't continue with the chat because they wanted to charge $69 for help that may not resolve the issue.  Thank you for your help, Rick.  This is what my test page looks like:

tylertroutman,

Try start, control panel, printers. Click on your printer, printer preferences, advanced, more options. Make sure the complete a print boxes are unchecked.

Complete a print boxes are unchecked.  Using a B&W image that is a text document and a color image that is a book cover I did the following test.

Copy Test:

B&W Image with the Black Copy Button = Blank Page

Color Image with the Color Copy Button = Normal/Successful Print

B&W Image with the Color Copy Button = Normal Successful Print

Color Image with the Black Copy Button = Extremely Faded Image w/ White Stripes

tylertroutman,

It really sounds like you have a bad black cartridge. Take it back to the place of purchase for a new Dell Series 5 ink cartridge.

With the power on, open the printer and take out the Dell Series 5 black cartridge. Examine the area where the cartridge is and make sure the area is clean. My suspicions are with the black cartridge.

Problems will happen if these cartridges are NOT Dell Series 5 ink cartridges. Refilling them can also cause problems.

I've just started getting the exact same problem.  I buy my cartridges direct from the Dell website.  Maybe it was a bad batch as it printed perfectly until now.

I am having the same problem exactly.  Did anyone figure out how to fix it?
