Can not set up V525W wireless

I have a brand new V525W printer which I am trying to connect a new XPS all-in-one computer.  If I use the USB cable, everything works great, but it will not let me connect using my wireless network.

I have installed, uninstalled, powered on, powered off, etc, etc, etc, as instructed in the set-up wizard, but when it comes time to configure the wireless, it won't let me continue after plugging in the USB cable.

The computer itself is connected wirelessly so I know the network is working fine.

Hi DFWTom,

Please follow the steps listed below to setup the printer on your wireless network:

1. Temporarily 'Disable' the anti-virus / firewall program installed in the computer; You may 'enable' it once the printer is setup on 'wireless'

2. Use the 'USB cable' to install the printer drivers in the computer

3. Use 'Printer's Wireless Setup Utility' to configure the printer on wireless:
- Click the Windows Pearl/Start button
- Click 'Programs'
- Click 'Dell Printers'
- Click 'Dell Printer Home'
- Click the 'Settings' tab
- Click 'Wireless setup utility'
- The User Account Control window may appear, if so click 'Continue'. Before proceeding you will need to know your wireless network name and what the network (security) key is, if any.
- On the Add a printer to your wireless network screen, click 'Continue'
- The printer looks for nearby wireless networks and displays them (Wireless network is the name of wireless network, used to connect; also called SSID)

4. If 'Wireless Network' name appears in the list, please follow the steps listed below:
- Enter the network (security) key if any, then click 'Continue'
- Review and make sure the settings are correct (if not click back to make the changes), then click 'Continue'
(The printer is configured and connects to the wireless network)
- The 'Allow Dell Software' window may appear, if so read the instructions, write down any notes needed, then click 'OK'
- When instructed remove the 'USB cable' from the computer and printer
- Click 'Finish' (Printer should now be connected to the wireless network)

5. If 'Wireless Network' name does not appear in the list:
- Click 'Unlisted Network'
- Enter the 'Network Name', then click 'Continue'
- Select the type of 'Network Security' the wireless router has, then click 'Continue'
- If asked enter the Network Security Key, then click 'Continue'
- Review and make sure the settings are correct (if not click back to make the changes), then click 'Continue'
(The printer is configured and connects to the wireless network)
- The 'Allow Dell Software' window may appear, if so read the instructions, write down any notes needed, then click 'OK'
- When instructed remove the 'USB cable' from the computer and printer
- Click 'Finish'
- The printer should now connected to the wireless network

6. WPS Setup:
- In case the issue persists, we can attempt the 'WPS setup' provided the router is WPS Complaint (WPS complaint router will have a logo on it, as in image below)

- On the Printer Operator Panel Go to 'Set up' > 'Network Set up' > 'WPS' > 'Push Method or Pin Method'
- Please select the 'Pin Method' (8- 10 digit number will be listed under the PIN method)
- Please enter the 'WPS PIN' on the router security page  ( under WPS option)
- Click on the 'WiFi Icon' for the 'Printer Setup' over wireless network

Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.

Thank you, Saurabh!

I did seem to have some luck after posting.  While setting up a replacement wireless mouse, the computer detected a wireless printer with a bunch of random letters for a name.  I noticed that the screen on the V525W showed a message to enter a numerical code into the window that popped up on the computer. When I did, the printer came to life and showed wireless connectivity.  I did not get a chance to see if the scanner portion  also worked.

I will follow your advice when I get home later today and see if that makes a better install.

SauraBH,

Thank you very much for your post. I was able to set up my printer wirelessly. There are several steps you missed in this post such as connecting the USB cable when the set up utility request it. But anyways. Thank you.

I don't have a USB to connect to my v525w. It is connected to my network, as is my computer, but they can't communicate with each other. How do I fix this?
