Can the 1600n Default Scan Settings be Changed?

Question

I have been using PaperPort for 6 years now so I am familiar with the software.  My problem is the 1600n WIA scan driver.  I cannot find any way to change the default settings.  Most of what I scan are multipage, letter sized, text documents.  My preferred scan setting is 300dpi.  The 1600n WIA scanner defaults are set for flatbed scanner, color picture and legal size paper.  So each time I scan a document using the WIA scanner I have to first select the document feeder, then select black and white picture or text, then adjust the quality of the scanned picture (from the 150 dpi default to 300 dpi), then select letter size paper (from a menu of dozens of paper sizes, not listed in alphabetical or any other order I can discern). Also, each page is scanned as a separate document, even though I am using the ADF.  This is not too much of a problem if I am scanning with PaperPort, because I can hit the Stack button after the document is scanned and compile it into a single document.  It is a problem if I am scanning to Adobe Acrobat (which was my preferred software), since compiling lots of separate documents into a single document is not that simple with Adobe. Through trial and error, I finally figured out that I can change the default settings on the TWAIN driver.  So if I scan from either PaperPort or Adobe, if I select the TWAIN driver it will remember my settings. The control panel scan button is useless for my purposes, however, because it uses the WIA driver by default regardless of which software I select, and there does not seem to be any way to make it use the TWAIN driver.  Also, when I use the scan button, the default is set to .bmp format if I select PaperPort (even though I have PaperPort set to pdf).  If I select Adobe Acrobat, it will only scan a single page from the ADF.  I have to hit the scan button for each page (creating a separate document for each page). I called Dell technical support and they had no idea how or if any of the default settings could be changed. Message Edited by KennedyLaw on 08-08-2004 10:08 PM

Someone pick me up off the floor..... and I get smacked for giving more "constructive" criticism.

I'm sorry to hear about the troubles, really, however, the one page per PDF to email is a limitation of the software drivers. Do a search, you'll find the post, that's how I learned of it. This is another reason why people are giving this Printer "constructive" criticism, because of stupid "rush out the door" this printer received.

A different user is trying to build a custom software interface to get around that, haven't heard anything from him though. Maybe now you'll start to understand my signature more, and realize how we all got bamboozled.
