changing printer cartridges
OK. Easy one, but I can't figure what I'm doing wrong! I have the printer lid up, power on, cleared it of documents, and still the pesky cartridge holder nestles coyly away in the corner where I can' get at it. Had no problems the last couple of times I changed cartirdges. What am I doing wrong now?
(I've tried unplugging the power, waiting 5 mins and plugging back. Still no go.)
Any help gratefully appreciated.

exnewbie,
Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. This will reset any error messages the printer is getting.
Make and model of your printer is helpful.
Is the printer cartrdige a Dell Series cartridges, refilled or generic brand?

Hi Rick
I've done as you suggested, but still no joy. This printer is a Dell 810, presently loaded with the second of a batch of three cartridges (series 6) I bought direct from Dell. No generic or refills. First two cartridges went in with no difficulty. So annoying. I can see that thing hiding in the left of the open printer. It comes out a few inches when I turn the power off then on, but quickly returns to its hidden position, thwarting any attempt to relieve it of its spent burden. Sigh. Any further suggestions welcomed. I'll try most anything.
(I've checked the printer list and there are no documents waiting to be printed.)

exnewbie,
I cannot find much information on this printer. Still trying to research for more information. This is an older printer and not much information on this. Can you quickly turn the printer on, then off and the cartridges move towards the center. mMaybe try this with the printer open.

switch the printer off and slide the catridge holder to the middle and then change ink catridges, these are signs of your printer beggining to malfunction

Rick, I tried everything you suggested, and then some.
In frustration I hit the dang thing. Very hard.
When I opened the lid, the cartridge was finally in the centre and the printer has given me no trouble since. I guess sometimes violence IS the answer!
Thanks again for your suggestions and support. I really appreciated them.
Frances
