Communication error: Lexmark 1270

Hello,
After getting some useful advice on here before I wonder if anyone has any suggestions for this problem.

Running Vista Home Premuim on an E520 and have just bought a Lexmark 1270 purely because it proclaimed loudly on the box it was Vista compatible.  Have tried using the driver installation disc that came with it and the recommended Vista download version from the Lexmark website.  Have even tried the XP drivers, but I still get a communication error.  I can scan but not print, and have checked the usb cable and the ports so am wondering if its the actual printer.

I contacted Lexmark and they sent me a link to a driver which wouldn't work ( "not a win32 application" ).  Before I take it back to the shop for a refund (and no doubt an entertaining exchange with the member of staff), is there anything else I could try?

Here's hoping...

Only one thought, before you return it and get something that will work.  When doing the installation did you first run the install program and ONLY when it tells you then physically connect it to the PC?  If you physically connected it first that may be the problem and in that case use the System Restore feature in Vista and restore the PC to a date prior to first attempting to install it as that will give you a "clean start".

for what it's worth, I do not recommend Lexmark's to my clients.

Thanks for replying.

Yeah, I did exactly as the instructions from Lexmark directed, and the prompts by the software.  Can't get to the shops till the weekend so will give it another go.  Hopefully Lexmark will have got back to me before then too.  Its annoying that it seems to half work, ie scan but not print.
