Im trying to connect my plotter directly to my computer without a network can it be done?

Set up a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network
How to set static IP for HP 1050c plotter, you can connect to the printer, but every time you shut off the computer, you'll need to manually connect
Virus programs and firewalls will block communications.
