Hi sara.e.michaels,

I would like to know if the color cartridges replaced were from the same manufacturer. As the printer is not detecting the new black cartridge it may be a compatibility issue. In order to confirm the same, I request you to once again install the old black cartridge and check. Please let know if the yellow exclamations mark comes up even with the old black cartridge in. Check for the error message as well. Let me know the status.

Thanks and Regards,

Sorry, and I also tried the original cartridge as well. It works just fine. I'm just confused as to why, if they're all from the same manufacturer, the color cartridges work but the black doesn't.

Yes, they are all from the same manufacturer. The  box says "Premium Toner Cartridge Series." I had no issues at all with the other cartridges, just the black. This is the 2nd one the company has sent me, and it doesn't work either.

Hi sara.e.michaels,

Dell printers are designed to work with Dell Ink Cartridges. As a rule, they should not work with third-party cartridges. The fact that the printer does work with the color cartridge seems to be an exception. I would strongly recommend that you use Dell cartridges with your Dell 1250c printer.

That response doesn't seem to make sense to me. There are several generic toner cartridges for the many brands of printers that can not only be found online, but in stores. These are designed to work with name-brand printers, since name-brand cartridges are often overblown in price. There are FOUR color cartridges that work with this printer and only one that doesn't. That would be four "exceptions." I'm not trying to be rude, but telling me to buy a Dell cartridge at $60 a pop doesn't exactly help my situation. I guess I just don't get why you're saying it's a "rule" that Dell printers don't work with generic cartridges, and yet four of them work perfectly with mine.

hi sara.e.michaels,

Since the old black cartridge is getting detected, it is a clear indication that the hardware components of the printer are working fine. Please contact the manufacturer of the generic cartridge as it is the issue with that cartridge and not the printer.

Yes, you are right..
That's exactly why I refill dell ink catridges... I've been doing it for a while and it never damaged my printer, or produced less than satisfactory prints.
