Dell 1600n network scanner cannot find users anymore

Question

I have a Dell 1600n all-in-one, and have been using the printer and scanner features regularly.  Recently, the scanning function became flaky and now it won't work at all. At first, the list of available users under the 'select id' menu option wouldn't necessarily show all of the connected users (i.e., the users with a valid, installed copy of the 'Network Scan' utility on their PC).  The list of available users would change each time I showed it. Now, it seems to have broken completely.  No users are shown.  On the PC side, when I try to use the Network Scan utility and 'Add Device', and browse the network, it cannot find the scanner.  Yet, the printer is on the network (I can get its web page and print to it).  Even if I specify the IP address directly, it won't find it (I have used a fixed IP address in it). It doesn't sound like a hardware problem, because the main print functionality is fine. Nothing significant has changed in my network (no router changes, etc.) How can I fix this?

Hi, I'm facing exactly the same problem as you are!

I already posted a message on April 30th 2010 (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3528/p/19331827/19698361.aspx#19698361) where Peter gave me a hint, but without helping in my case.

I actually use the scanning via USB port, but this cannot scan several pages at a time in pdf format (only 1 file per page).

Looking forward for a quick solution to this problem !
