When the paper "stops", what lights on the control panel are lit?

(these would be the Primary error code)

If any others but the Ready light are on, press the Continue button twice quickly and check to see if any other lights are lit.

(these would be the Secondary error code)

The output sensor is activated by the right lever that you see on the right side of the paper tray.   You can actually open and close the output sensor by lifting on the right lever also known as mudflap.

the paper jam light is lit. but like i said it doesn't finish feeding the paper out to the top tray. double punching the button doesn't show any secondary code. still working on it thought.

OK..... need a couple more questions answered:

1. What model printer is this really? Your message header indicates 17010n, which I assume is 1710n?

2. You indicated the paper comes about halfway out then stops. If  you let the printer cool a couple of minutes before pulling the paper out, does the toner rub off on the lower section of the page?

The exit sensor on the 1700 & 1710 models is located just past the fuser rollers but is located in the Fuser assy.

Contrary to what Borg_852565 indicates, only the 1720 has "mud-flaps" and only the flap on the right-side is "sensored". The 1700 and 1710 models DO NOT have this feature.

Well, if you can convince someone at Dell to sell it to you, the Exit Sensor assy is P/N RC456 and the Fuser assy P/N is RC442.

Good luck.....

How badly is it broken? Beyond repair?

First time post here. I have had some jam issues with the 1710 and have fixed them like so:

Pull out the paper tray

On the bottom of the printer above where the paper tray goes, there are 2 black rollers

Pull off the rubber bands on the rollers, and turn them inside out, then put them back on

The rollers then grip better and transport the paper.

It's been shown that flipping the tires inside out provides very limited relief. That side of the rubber is slick and becomes dirty very fast.

Since you know where the tires are, remove the plastic hub the tires are fitted to from each end of the shaft. A litttle clip at the end of each shaft holds each hub in place.

Now that you have both hubs/tires in your hand, flip those tires back to the original position.

Next, using warm water and a mild soap solution (never alcohol), wash the grime from the rubber tire surfaces then completely dry both feed rollers. Dry with a lint free rag..... old clean tee-shirt works good.

Slide each cleaned tire/hub back onto the end of the right and left sides of the feed shaft until the clips engage.

This commonly overlooked item of simple maintenance can help resolve many paper feed/jam issues.

I ordered it from a company in California. it wasn't broken bad. acctually had 4 printers with the same problem the plastic lever for the exit sensor had worn down. 25 dollars a piece and there back up and running. the printer is a good printer for networking in a call center. it holds up much better than some other ones.

llynster I hope you are still around.

I have the same problem   Dell 1710 printer.

Had a paper jam at the back of the unit and broke the exit sensor trying to get the paper out.
The paper would stop as soon as a it got to the sensor.

I replaced the little trigger and now the paper stops half way out the top.

Any suggestions

Thanks

skean12,

llynster has retired from the Dell Forums. Maybe another member that he helped can share the information that he provided to them.

Paper does not  come out at all. Errors says paper jammed. It looks like the rollers don't work. Can I buy these parts from Dell?

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Cleaning the tires worked wonders. My printer works beautifully, I swear less, my kids learn fewer "new" words.
