dell 1720dn errors
Hello,
I've got (2) 1720dn printers both out of warranty and with different problems. The first one had the service error where all the led's flashed and support said to replace the system board since it was out of warranty. The second one had a fuser that ate itself with a bad paper jam. I swapped the system board from the one with the fuser failure into the first one. both are 1720dn models with service tags ending in 7D1 and the system boards appeared identical. The problem is still occuring with the first one and I know for sure that the one with the fuser error had no problem with it's system board other than the fuser eating itself. After following the guided troubleshooting the wizard came up with that it was an NVram error and to reset the printer. I have tried the steps to reset the printer to no avail. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi "davehaertel",
Ahhh..... the old "make one printer out of two bad printer's" trick.
Exactly what procedure did you use to reset the printer? (I don't want to tell you something you've already tried.)
The reason moving the system board didn't work is because you needed to move the Control Panel over as well. This is little known, but the NVRAM on the system board is backed-up to an NVRAM chip on the Control panel. By moving only the system board, it confronted a backup in the CP that did not match. If you're very lucky, you might still be able to move the control panel over and get a functional machine.

Well, I tried the reset doing the following steps
open the front cover
hold down continue and cancel together
turn the power switch on while holding them both together
waiting for the error light to light up by itself (never happened)
It just goes straight to all of the lights flashing at the same time.

Did you try moving the control panel too? In other words, ensure the system board AND control panel stay together as a pair.
If you did, and you still have this problem, you've likely corrupted that system board and/or control panel ram.
