Dell 3100 Network - IP address change ?

I have a dell 3100CN - and have a home network - broudband router with one PC and the printer connected to it. Everything worked for a while and now I cannot print. The PC has XP pro.

The IP address of the printer is 192.168.15.102 but the "Status Monitoe Consloe" shows it as  192.168.15.101.  I re-installed from the disk and it all worked for a short time (hours) and now I am back to the same problem.

Do I need to have a fixed IP address - if so how? or chan I change the IP address in the console.

When I print everything just sits in the quee.

Configure the computer to send print jobs to the printer's hostname instead of the IP address.

Open the printer properties window. On the "Ports" page click on "Configure Port...". Change the IP adress to the hostname in the text box labeled "Printer Name or IP Address:".

The other option is to set a static ip address. From the printer itself: Menu > configure > network > tcp/ip > ip****(can't recall but it's the 1st one) > panel*, then back up to tcp/ip > ip address > [enter ip address] and repeat for subnet mask and default gateway.
I'm not 100% certain about the menu options as this is from memory. Hopefully you get the idea...
