Dell 5100cn color issues

I'm a printer tech and I'm trying to resolve a pink background on all the printouts on a dell 5100cn printer. So far I've replaced the Image drum, Developer unit with all colors, fuser, toners and transfer roller. Could it be an HVU issue? It works fine for a bit then the problem reoccurs.   Help

If it were an HVPS issue, I don't think it likely the problem would go away, then come back.

Is the pink (magenta dusting) present on each of the 20% density pages?

To print the 20% density pages:
1. Power off the printer.
2. Press and hold the UP and DOWN arrow buttons while you power the printer on.
3. The buttons may be released when the LCD indicates "Diagnosing..."
4. After a few secoinds, the LCD should indicate "Customer Mode" and "ESS Diag"
5. Press the UP or Down arrow buttons to find "Test Print", press the Enter (center) button.
6. Press the Down arrow button to find and select Cyan20%, or Magenta20%, or Yellow20%, or Black20%; press the Enter button twice to select and print that test page
(note: printers with the newest firmware may have an additional menu item called "ContaminationCHK". Using this item will print all 4 of the 20% density pages for you)
7. After all print tests have been completed, power the printer off, wait ~5 dsecs, and power on.

Hi - I've got the same problem with pink cast on printed pages.  I printed the ContaminationCHK, and got magenta contamination on all pages.   When I look at the imaging drum unit, all of the drums are clean except for the magenta drum, which has a considerable dusting of toner on it.  I can replace the drum, but is there anything I should be trying or investigating first?   I am told the condition appeared after the user replaced the black toner cartridge.  I wonder about the possibility of poor electrical contact on a connector somewhere causing problems - I am concerned about the coincidental appearance of the problem after replacement of a different color toner cartridge.  Any suggestions?

Thanks

Matt Ellis

Have any of you been able to resolve this pink cast on your pages.  I have the 5110cn and the same thing is happening to my unit.  These are old posts and I was hoping there would be a solution here by now.

Thanks

Note how old the [collapse]original message is?  And that person never replied.

Question 1:
Are you using genuine Dell toner? If not, this is probably only the beginning of more problems. The company that makes these printers for Dell has a trade secret on the toner formulation. Compared with 3rd party toners, it is not the same and they will eventually ruin the inner workings of the printer.... including producing the symptoms you are having now.

Question 2:
DId you print the 20% density pages as described elsewhere on this thread? If so, when diagnosing print quality issues, pictures speak a thousand words.
If you can, please scan or take some pictures of your defective images, upload them to your computer, and post them with your reply. Use the "Insert Media" icon (2 to the left of the smiley) to locate the file on your computer and upload with your reply. (obtw.... max image width is 550 pixels)

Thanks for helping out. To answer your questions, yes we are using Dell toner only and yes I printed the test pages and they look fine.

When i open the cover, there is a bunch of magenta toner on the imaging drum roller up front and the magenta one on the back side of the imaging drum. It's like the printer is dumping out a lot of that particular color. We just bought this used a few days ago and have only been printing black on it. It worked fine but has been sqeaking while inuse. Then we tried to print something in color and now have magenta color showing up on everything we print.

i know how to resolve this.

Firstly what you do is go into the printing preferences, go to advanced tab, in other settings scroll right down to the bottom and change the "Print Monochrome documents faster" to "On". Then go back to the printer and clean the magenta developer. I have had this problem before and this solution solves it every time.

Please let me know if this solves this for you.

thanks,

Lance

I see this quite a bit..... and I certainly see it on the background of the last image you attached.

Lift the drum unit out and examine the interior. Lots of loose toner around? This stuff will need to be cleaned out. Use a laser vacuum if you have one. If not, be prepared to ruin the vacuum cleaner. Toner particles will cause damage to the motor IF it's a model that has airflow thru the motor for cooling, a common practice. Standard filter bags will let toner pass thru them. You need a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter that is located before the motor or impeller.

NOTE!! Remove the Power cord from the printer while working inside it.

While the drum unit is out, clean everything metal that you see. Most of the metal pieces you see are High Voltage and Ground contact points. If it's metal, clean it. Electrical cleanliness is critical inside this color laser. An old, clean tee-shirt works great for this.... of course, one that you don't want to wear anymore.

If a thorough cleaning doesn't correct the problem, you may need to replace the Magenta Developer unit. If you're competent with a #2 Phillips screwdriver and needle-nose pliers, you can do this. Let me know......
