Dell 5330dn Printer Problems

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a Dell 5330dn printer. It prints fine and is very very fast so all ok in that respect.

The problem I have is that when I turn my computer on in the morning the printer will print off a load of blank pages and I keep having to push the stop button as its just a waste of paper. It prints some random symbols on the paper, almost as if its some kind of test page?

Is there any way to stop this as its driving me mad? Surely the printer shouldn't do anything until I click to do so.

Thanks

Andrew

I assume that the printer is connected via USB. It sounds like the computer is initialising the USB ports on startup and the printer is interpreting this as data it needs to print.

The first suggestion would be to update the firmware of the printer. Current firmware is A05 and can be found at;

Next check to see which port the printer is plugged into. It is always better to connect to an onboard USB port rather than an external card for both consistency and reliability.

Should this not work I would next suggest checking your BIOS settings to see if there is anything you can change regarding the USB. Settings such as Legacy Support may be the problem. Make a note of the current settings and try changing each one and see what the result is.

Finally there's the standby solution. Turn the PC on first followed by the printer. Once the USB ports are initialised they shouldn't be sending spurious data to the printer.

I downloaded the drivers but windows does not recognise the file type so they will not install. I checked in the control panel and the current drivers are version 3.04.60:14.

It is plugged directly into the PC through one of the rear USB ports.

Thanks

The link I supplied is to the printer firmware. On that page are installation instructions for the file which require the original CD supplied with the printer.

A printer firmware is different from the printer driver. It needs to be loaded onto the printer itself. Dell supply the software to do this on the CD.

Unfortunately I cannot locate my installation CD so I cannot be more specific with my instructions at this time.

Hi Andrew,

If you have any network functionality in your location, ie, a router or switch, use that instead of USB. This won't happen anymore.
