jjcabral,

When you upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit, did you install the Notebook System Utility the Intel HM57 Express Chipset Family the Intel Management Engine Interface and the Realtek RTS5138 Card Reader drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Once this is corrected, run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Rsetart your computer. Make sure the pritner was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 64-bit drivers and install the drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on) If you want to try the wireless adapter, choose network and follow the instructions.

1. Open the McAfee Security Center and then click on the ‘Internet and Network’

2. To the right of ‘Internet and Network’ you would see all the services that are present under it, just below that you would have a button ‘Configure’ please click on that.

3. Now you would have the Internet and Network Configuration, in this window you would have an option ‘Firewall Protection in Enabled’ to the right of that you would have a downward arrow, click on that.

4. Then click on the ‘Advanced’ button which would have a new screen up.

5. To the left of that window you would have ‘System Services’ click on it and to the right pane of the window you would have the ports listed.

6. Please check the option which is for ‘Windows File Sharing’ then click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘Ok’

7. Restart the computer

Computer make is: Dell Inspiron N7010

64 Bit - Windows 7 Ultimate

I have tried the software drivers from the dell website Web65966-en.

Each time I would uninstall everything, try it with USB only (with the adapter removed) - Failed

Uninstall everything, install adapter for network (wireless disabled), install software - Failed

Uninstall everything, install adapter for wireless (cat5 unplugged), install software - Failed.

I uninstall the software and verify manually too CONTROL PANAEL - VIEW DEVICES and PRINTERS - "Remove device"

I am using McAfee | AntiVirus Plus

- SecurityCenter

- VirusScan

- Personal Firewall

- SiteAdvisor

- QuickClean and Shredder

I have installed, rebooted.

- Notebook System Utility

- Intel HM57 Express Chipset Family

- Intel Management Engine Interface

- Realtek RTS5138 Card Reader drivers (This one failed to load, but the others were successful.)

I went applied the .cmd file to erase the printer spooling, nothing was there to delete.

also went directly to the folder just in case and nothing was their either.

I opened up my McAfee and didn't see an option for it as to your reference.  When installing, it states that there will be changes made to my firewall and I click accept. I am going to attempt to disable my AV and see what happens from there.

For clarification, I did set the compatability to vista sp2.

Once it was all done, I tried and it still failed to produce the option for me to check the 'Enable Bidirectional Communication"  It is still grayed out.

I tried to install it with the USB cable.  Network adapter has been pulled out of the printer so there is no option for net or wireless.

jjcabral,

Not sure how the server works.

Do you have the drivers available on the server?

For the network printer at work, I have to add printer and since I knew the ip address for the printer, I added the printer using the ip address. Our company had the drivers on the server.

Maybe this will help. Sharing a printer through a wireless network

jjcabral,

I have see the Enable Bidirectional Support/Enable Biodirectional Support greyed out but usually reinstalling the printer, it goes away.

Wondering if it is some type of firewall or permissions on your server.

Can you print or not? If you can print, then I would think this has something with allowing communications in both directions. The printer has to be able to read the nertwork to see the computer(s) it needs to allow scans. If wireless, I think you have to use the printer to scan to the computer. The newer model printers, you can do it from the computer or the printer.

I am knowledgable of installing printers via the network, however it is the same issue in regards to the USB issue.  The box is still grayed out when I attempt to enable bidirectional communication.

I did read over the link you sent, however that is what I was doing when I was trying to install it via the wireless.  Still, even then the enable bidirectional communication was not allowed due to it being grayed out.

jjcabral,

Try a different cable? Is the cable 5ft or smaller?

I attempt a new cable. I wish it were as easy to find the issue being layer 1, but it isn't.  So I am back to the drawing board.  One thing that I have learned, is that on a different user account (one that is not on the domain, since I pulled it off), it still had information about the dell driver being shared from a different comuter. I am going to attempt to log onto all the local accounts and delete this issue.  Once I am done, I will log back into the domain and do the same thing. Get all the users int he house to remove the dell 966 printer from their profiles.  THEN I will attempt to do this from scratch.

I don't think think that this will be the issue, however it is just another thing to check.

Hopefully it is something simple like that....

I forgot to say...  Yes the cable is less than 5 ft.

One cable is three and the other is 5

jjcabral,

A stuck print job in the queue will not allow you to remove the printer. It may go through the process but will not remove. That is why I have people run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.

I read over this and noticed that I did not mention about disconnecting the printer, then download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

The patch and drivers(if needed) can be found at Dell 966 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Using the downloaded drivers, the OCR Program will not install and will have to be installed using the Printer disk.

jjcabral,

There should not be a

C: Program Filres (x86) (x86)

Folder. If you can remove this from the computer.

Not a big fan of many registry cleaners but you may have to use one. The one I know is safe is CCleaner because it offers you a chance to backup your registry.

Download CCleaner and install it. Click on registry, scan for issues. Fix selected issues. It will ask you, do you want to backup changes to the registry. Click yes, save it then fix all issues.

Restart your computer and try the process again.
