Scanner image has several, full length, vertical smudges when the auto feeder is used. When document is laid flat on screen there are no smudges. How do I clean or correct this anomaly?
Clean the edge of the glass, with a lint-free cloth, like a coffee filter, on the edge near the ADF. The bulb stays stationary and the document moves past the bulb. Cleaning the glass should correct the problem.
Thanks a million for the quick response. I cleaned the glass as suggested, scanned a doc through the ADF and still have the stripes. The stripes appear to be unchanged from previous scans. What should I attempt next?
If it was the bulb, when you scan under the glass, you would see the lines.
Take a picture/document and scan the image using the ADF, then do the same image with the glass.
What happens.
Using the ADF, the bulb stays stationary, near the ADF and the picture/document goes past the bulb. Using the glass, the blub passes across the glass. That is why if you see it using the ADF and not the glass, I would suspect a tiny piece of dirt near the edge.
You can find a picture/document that does not reveal any personal information, post it back here.
Back into the office and tackled this problem again; this time with success. What I had been doing was lifting the cover top and cleaning the flat glass surface. That did not get to the problem so I opened the ADF exposing the glass with the bulb under it and cleaned that glass. I used the coffee filter paper as you suggested and a can of ultra duster.
The scanner is now producing great photo docs and everything is working like new!
