Dell AIO 964 - Wont Install

Dell did not agree with my original post and notified me that they were pulling it.  So I will try to "clean" it up so you all can read it and maybe assist me with my problem (as I have asked Dell to do on multiple occassions without any luck).

I have read multiple posts in regards to Dell products not being able to be installed on different operating systems and different computers (Currently using Windows 7).  Says alot for the junk Dell puts on the market.  Not only have I had multiple issues with my Dell Desktop but I am also having difficulties installing the Dell 964 AIO to my wifes HP laptop.  Dell hasn't given any support what so ever, I guess we need to rely on ourselves/eachother to figure out the problems with their products.  I have tried to contact them multiple times and they seem to care less (all they want to do is sell me an $80 and hour techie).   I have read your posts and tried to unistall and install, and unistall and install, and unistall and install multiple times.  It seems the driver software will not install properly.  If I use the disc that comes with the printer I can get it to appear as if it has installed and it will  print a test page.   If I try to print anything else, it says it does not recognize it, and yes it is listed as the default printer.  Any suggestions, other than throwing this piece o junk out the window and buying a reliable printer that a company will actually back!  In advance, thanks for any help.

Very disapointed in Dell, I will never purchase one again,

bmoeller72,

First try running Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer.

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. Install the drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)

Virus programs and firewalls will block printer communications.

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

bmoeller72,

We do not have Windows 7 drivers for the PAIO 964. When this printer was released, Windows 7 was not out. As you can see here, we only tested/validated it in 2000, XP, and Vista 32. Even the Manual Printer Specifications do not mention Windows 7. PudgyOne is right on and the Vista 32 driver should install in Vista Compatibility mode.

bmoeller72,

In addition to what Chris stated, I used to own a Dell 964 Printer. I was able to install the printer on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit system usig the Vista 64-bit drivers in the Compatibility mode

If you need additional help, please feel free to ask.

If the computer with Windows 7 was upgraded, did you install the desktop/notebook utility and the chipset drivers first? If not the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order If you cannot find Windows 7 drivers, try using the Vista 32-bit (or XP) drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit (or XP) drivers for Windows 7 64-bit and install the drivers in the Compatibility mode
