Dell AIO Photo 964 printer driver for W7 x64

Hello,

I am looking for a printer driver to use my Dell AIO Photo 964 printer under Windows7 ultimate x64.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

PudgyOne,

as already reported:

I am still looking for a solid working driver for my Dell AIO Photo 964  USB-cable connected to a Lenovo T61 laptop with:

OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (multi-language; selected language: English United States)

Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601

OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation (genuine & registered)

System Manufacturer     LENOVO

System Model    6460A44

System Type     x64-based PC

Processor       Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU     T7500  @ 2.20GHz, 2201 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)

Originally, the laptop came with a Windows Vista 32-bit OS under which the Dell AIO Photo 964 worked without any problems and I could use all it's functions.

After the upgrade to W7 x64 in 04/2012 all my peripherals and other drivers are working fine except the Dell AIO Photo 964 due to a missing compatible driver software!!!

Strictly following your installation procedure recommendations so far, the driver installation always fails either with:

- 'Device driver software was not successfully installed' or with

- 'Dell Photo AIO Printer 964: ready to use'; and 'Dell Photo AIO Printer 964:No driver found'

I am using Windows Firewall and AVG2012.

The driver installation failures also occur, when I switch off:

- any internet connection

- temporarily the firewall and/or

- temporarily the anti virus protection AVG2012

which means that the firewall and virus protection software should have no impact for a successful driver installation or?

Hopefully, these details might give you an 'idea' for a working solution procedure.

Please allow me a comment on this topic:

"In the meantime I have to admit that I am somewhat disappointed about the DELL support structure"

I am looking forward to your reply.

Kind regards

koalablue95,

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed.
Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista
Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

pudgyone,

thank you for your comments.

I followed your advice as follows:

1. I have downloaded the printer cleanup utility R166225 .zip and the Vista 64-bit driver for my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit machine R146813.exe

2. at this stage the 'Devices & Printers window' showed an icon for the AIO964 telling me that it needs trouble shooting because no device driver is installed

3. no stuck print jobs were in the print queue

4. I disconnected the USB printer cable from the laptop (Lenovo T61)

5. I ran the printer cleanup utility and restarted my computer when prompted; the cleanup seemed to work fine: after the restart the 'Devices & Printers window' showed no icon for the AIO964 anymore

6. I ran R146813.exe -which is a self-extracting executable- in the Vista compatibility mode and the folder

to be continued ...

Do you have any idea what went wrong?

Many thanks for your assistance in advance

koalablue95,

When you clicked on R146813.exe, it unzipped and sat there. Read in red below.

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

If using Windows 7, use the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista(Try Vista SP2). Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)

pudgyone,

thank you for your comment.

Eventually, you haven't read my last post completely; kindly refer to topic 6.-8. of my last post.

1.-5. ....

6. I ran R146813.exe -which is a self-extracting executable- and the folder ..\dell\drivers\R146813\... with all it's sub-directories was sucessfully created

7. firstly, I ran SETUP.EXE in folder R146813 in the Vista compatibility mode -connecting the printer when prompted- which ended with the message: Device driver software was not successfully installed

8. secondly, I ran Instgui.EXE in folder R146813\install\x64 in the Vista compatibility mode -connecting the printer when prompted- which ended with the message window: Device driver software was not successfully installed; sub messages:-Dell Photo AIO Printer 964: ready to use; and Dell Photo AIO Printer 964:No driver found

In both cases, I started the program in the 'run as administrator' mode

which setup.exe file do I have to use for my W7 ultimate x64 machine?

kind regards

koalablue95,

Make and model of your computer and operating system. 32-bit or 64-bit. If using Windows 7, did the computer come with Windows 7 or was it recently installed?

Is the operating system in English?

What virus program and firewall are you using?

koalablue95,

I used to own the Dell 964 Printer and had it working with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I used the Vista 64-bit drivers in the Vista SP2 Compatibility mode from the  Dell 964 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Your problem is probably with AVG. Try reading...

PudgyOne,

sorry, I have to report that the driver installation stills fails after strictly following your recommendation on my W7 x64 ultimate laptop.

The driver installation failures also occur, when I switch off:
- any internet connection
- temporarily the firewall and/or
- temporarily the anti virus protection of AVG2012
which means that the Windows firewall and the AVG virus protection software have no impact for a successful driver installation

Please let me know other expert resources concerning this special driver installation procedure; I would be happy to get a working solution from DELL.

Kind regards

Rudi,

Is the operating system installed, in English or another language?

Allow this program to run past AVG, it's not a trojan. Post back the information

  • Download the System Information Tool If using Vista/Windows 7, the tool needs extracted. Once extracted, right click on sysinfo and run as administrator.

If using XP, double click on the tool, then double click on sysinfo.

Allow this past your virus program and post the information back here.

koalablue95,

Can you run me an ipconfig /all log. Please do NOT translate it if it shows in German.

This will help me figure out how to install the drivers. I need to see something from a log of some type.

Rick,

my W7 x64 ultimate OS is a genuine Microsoft product as reported earlier.

It is an certified German W7 OS-version running in English.

Please send me links to download the correct driver version and/or of other professionals with recommendations of assistance.

Thank you

Rudi

P.S. concerning your "Sysinfo.exe" proposal; this program is not certified by AVG and classified as "Infection";"Trojan horse Dropper.Agent.MDJ"

we will not run it until it is officially AVG certified

Rick,

kindly consider that I want to use my AIO964 as a local device for printing and scanning with a USB cable as before under Vista 32bit, not as a network device.

And, not wireless or with an ethernet network cable. So, I wonder why my IP configuration will help you.

I am looking forward to your reply. Thank you

Rudi

Rudi,

I suspect your computer is in German but even thought you're using it in English. I will give you the procedure to fool your computer into thinking you have the German drivers installed.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 64-bit drivers. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You may or may not get a message to connect the printer.

Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type...

C:\Program Files\Dell 964\Drivers

You should see an English folder there. Right click, new, create folder. Name the new folder German. Copy all the files in the English folder and paste them to the German folder.

Double click on the Vista 64-bit drivers and install again. There should be a message, then printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on.

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Dell 964 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

The printer will work in English instead of German.
