Dell All in One Printer 948

Question

When the printer is in sleep mode and I turn it on, before it begins printing, it makes a loud clacking noise, like plastic hitting plastic.  The noise seems to be coming from under the ADF cover.  I have checked under the cover and cannot see anything out of place.  The printer prints properly but this noise when it is taken out of sleep mode is horrible.  Please advise.  Thank you.

See if the scanner works properly via the ADF and the scanner bed itself. Would be good to know especially if you're still under warranty.
