Dell All-In-One Scanner Software / Dell 922 Printer

Windows XP SP2

Hi there,

I have installed my printer from the Dell disk numerous times in the past and when it looked for a driver, it also ended up installing the All-In-One printer software and Paintshop Pro 8 etc.

However, most recently when I did this, Windows Update also provided a driver and I selected this instead (when the system searched for drivers).  Unfortunately, by choosing this, the All-In-One printer software was not installed so I can't use the scanning software.

Looking at the contents of the cd, there is no obvious directory to install the All-In-One scanner software.  Reinstalling the drivers gives the message that the drivers are up-to-date.  Trying to simply put the cd in to install everything results in it identifying that the drivers are installed and it does make you wait whilst it seems to appear to be transferring software, but the All-In-One scanner software does not get installed.

How do I get around this problem?  How do I get the All-In-One scanner software onto my system other than reinstalling Windows?

Cheers,

Shao

ShaoChan,

You can uninstall the Dell Printer software completely using Add/Remove programs or by deleting the printer from Printers in Control Panel.  You can also attempt a system restore to just before you installed the printer driver from Windows Updates to effectively remove the driver.

After you have removed the printer driver, reinstall the Dell software and driver from the Dell supplied CD.

Hi there,

The reason why I post is that:
1) Deleting the printer does not work.
2) There is no uninstall in the add/remove programs because the All-In-One software does not get triggered during the driver install anymore.

How do I manually install the All-In-One software?

Thanks.

Shao

Try this

How are you connected to the printer? wired of wireless?

If wired, disconnect your printer. Go to start/programs/Dell printers and un-install your printer.

Restart your computer.

Now go to drivers and downloads/select product/printers/select your printer.

Install your printer. You'll be prompted when to connect it.

If wireless, fix your network first.

Update the firmware in your wireless router. Manufacturer's website, make & Model needed.

Broadcast SSID(You may want to change this to make it easier to connect)

Use WPA security

After router is done, now setup your wireless print server/printer.

If wireless printer server is used, Plug USB cable into computer and print server. Insert the print server disk. Choose Network, then choose print server and follow the instructions.

Now setup the printer.

Now go to drivers and downloads/select product/printers/select your printer.

Install your printer. Choose Network. Install the drivers.

Everything should now work.

Hi PudgyOne,

Thanks for that.  My printer is wired.

It's a new install.  I have tried downloading the printer drivers from the Dell Website - does it include the scanner software?  Because I have tried to do this before and it downloads something into C:\Dell and then executes.

Getting the printer to work is fine as is the scanner I think.  Everything is okay in the Device Manager.  It's just that when the software installs, the scanner All-In-One software doesn't get installed and the Paint Shop Pro 8 doesn't get installed (although I am not really bothered about PSP).

Cheers,

Shao

If you already tried your printer disk, The scanning program is on that. I'm NOT sure about the drivers from the website, but I would think they are.

I was successful with installing my 964 using the disks. Mine is connected to a 3300 print server. My wireless router has WPA security, broadcasts SSID and firmware is up to date. I use the b and g mode and channel 11.

Hi PudgyOne,

Thanks for that.  I have tried many times from the disc though.  I know the software is on there, but its a shame it can only be installed through triggering through the driver, as there does not seem to be a clear executable you can double-click on.

Other than reformatting my PC which I don't want to do as I've just done it, I don't know what else to do.

Cheers,

Shao

This could be a longshot but, there used to be a FREE program out there call Simple OCR. It would have the OCR program. It was FREE and I really didn't care for it. Doint more research I found FREEOCR. I can't guarentee it, but it might just work.

After you install such a program, try scanning with your printer and see what happens.

Did you try Drivers and downloads for the printer software?

Maybe this?

Thanks for that.  The link you provided to the Dell drivers page is exactly the one I tried previously.  That's why I had to ask whether or not it included the scanner software because I couldn't get it to install the All-In-One software either!

The other thing I don't know whether will work, but I may try is to delete registry settings.

I assume anything under Dell could be deleted and then try again?

Cheers,
