dell fax does not come up when i open a document

this is really driving me crazy.

my computer is connected to the printer. i can print but cant fax.

have tried with windows xp prof 32 bit and windows 7 64 bit.

i can open launch dell printer home. i can set up faxing normal and advanced.

then i open a word or pdf and go to print. i don't get a V715W (fax).

i am connected via network ethernet AND wireless.

have tried adding printer in control panel - no cigar!

helP!!

grak,

I no longer have a phone line to try faxing.

Did you have the Dell V715w Wireless Printer setup with the printer disk?

Did you install the Fax software?

Does the Dell Fax program show up in control panel, devices and printers?

yes, i have set it up from cdrom as well as from dell web. the cdrom prompts for updates anyways and probably gets latest from dell.

there was nothing supplied called "fax software".

the printer shows up in control panel ok. a printer called dell 715w fax should also show up but does not.

what should show up when i launch "dell printer home" is in Fax tab there should be an option "Send a fax" this option does not show up despite repeated re-installs.

there i think some yellow-colored deal somewhere in registry or something which needs to be deleted. i am not sure where it is.

thanks

grak,

Did you open Dell Printer Home, then click on Fax, setup the printer to fax and follow the instructions?

I have the Dell V715, just don't have a phone line.

grak,

And you tried to install from the Dell Printer disk?

What type of connection are you trying to use to fax?

yes, i did try ti install from cdrom which came with printer. also, tried off dell web

am using vonage for all my phone needs. works fine. if i fax from printer physically is fine.

its just that i cant access my printer for faxing from my computer.

once i remember some dell rep had helped. they went into some vague windows config stuff and deleted something.

OMG Rick!

Documents was greyed out.

I re-installed from CDROM but only asked for Abby OCR Install. That fixed the problem.

Dell should be kicked on its behind. When you normally install from CDROM all 3 options are checked so it should have installed Abby OCR.

Pathetic by Dell to not install Abby OCR even though it is checked. A way to make money I suppose.

Thanks very much Rick. I now see an option under fax to "Send a fax"

grak,

Glad you got it working! :emotion-21: Thanks for posting back. When you installed the drivers, if you used drivers from Dell's website, then the OCR Program would not install. The OCR Program is on the Printers disk. My wife has a Dell Mini 10 and there is no cd/dvd rom. I installed the drivers from Dell's website and noticed that Documents was greyed out. At a later time, I got out my external dvd burner and attached it to the Dell Mini 10 and installed the OCR Program.

Make sure to go to start, all programs, ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint, ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint, and activate it. Tell it that it was purchased with the Dell V715w Wireless Printer. I'm not sure if it will update any more than it is now.

Take care,

Rick
