Dell M5200n toner

Question

I'm trying to use a Lexmark Prebate toner cartridge #12A7462 for Lexmark T630 in my Dell M5200n printer and I keep getting 32 Unsupported cartridge on the printer display.  I've checked with several vendors, all say this cartridge should work.  Can anyone advise?

The supplies page for the M5200n lists an 18,000  copy use and return cartridge; however, it says it is for the W5300n.  Since it is listed on the M5200n supplies page I am assuming it will work in an M5200n, could someone verify that for me?

The M5200 uses two different capacity carts; 12k and 18k.

The W5300 uses two different capacity carts, 18k and 27k

The 18k cart can be used in either printer.

The 12k is for the M5200 ONLY and the 27k is for the W5300 only

And oh by the way..... the Dell vs. Lexmark carts may look, feel, and seem the same, buy they utilize an electronic signature which prevents use of one cart in the other product, and vice-versa. The reason for the error codes you encountered.

I understand SCC makes a chip for the Lexmark printers that allows the use of third party toner in Lexmark printers

Basically, you may use whatever cartridges you like, it's just using 3rd-party ones will void your warranty. Message Edited by d3sp on 06-02-2004 02:08 PM

True, but only if the toner causes the problem. In any case virtually every wearable part (fuser, pickup rollers, transfer roller, etc) is user replaceable and not covered by the warranty anyway.

You will need to check with DELL what warranty will be void. I am not aware of details.

All, Simply using a non-Dell cartridge will not void your warranty.  However, any damage caused by the use of a non-Dell cartridge will not be covered under warranty.
