DELL PHOTO PRINTER 966 AIO
I bought my dell xps 410 windows vista and printer all at one time in Jan 07. For some reason about a month ago my computer and printer quit communicating with one another! I have done everything that you are supposed to do...unplug, restart, move to another plug, downloaded new software for 966, unplugged, restarted again, removed all other software, downloaded again, restarted and then prayed and threw Holy water on it but they still are not communicating. Everything is hooked in and my computer tells me it is downloading the software and under my control panel it says the 966 is installed.
The other day, my computer told me there was no printer spoil. Tried to figure out what that was but have not gotten that message again. Popped up and then went off!
PLEASE HELP! I hate to take my computer in for someone else to look at. I guess it is like a mechanic hiring someone to fix their car! PLEASE!
THANKS!

How it the 966 printer connected to the XPS 410? USB Cable or are you using the wireless feature in the printer?

jzdzszaz,
To install the printer properly, the best way is to follow the instructions below. First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.
Disconnect your printer.
Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch, a MUST on Vista machines, until it prompts you to restart your computer.
Restart your computer.
Download the proper drivers.
XP Drivers
Vista 32-bit Drivers
64-bit Drivers
All other drivers
Install the proper drivers, you'll be prompted when to connect your printer.
When finished, install the latest firmware for the 966 printer.
Tweaking the USB Ports...
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Restart your computer.
Let me know what happens.

I have completed all these steps. These steps are the ones I did the other day that made it work. Today it is not working. We were printing a job and while it was printing, clicked on Adobe and everything froze and it has not worked since. This time when I try to update the firmware it tells me that there is a Timeout Error firmware was not able to update. I am not sure what has happened. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
When firmware is unzipped a box comes up with a list of program / file names. I have been clicking on the Field update and that is when it will say installing firmware and then the error pop ups!
