Dell V305 Enable Bidirectional Communications - Grayed Out in Vista

Hello:

My V305 was playing up, so I downloaded the driver and firmware.  I now get a "The printer cannot communicate with the printer - Enable Bidirectional Communications" error message.  The OS is Vista 64 bit, and this is the only printer (so shows as default) and the port is USB.  I have read the posts saying check the "Enable bidirectional support" box in printer properties, but that box is grayed out.   I have tried unplugging the printer for a while.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

ColinJ11,

Printer wired or wireless?

What virus program and firewall are you using?

ColinJ11,

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.

Make sure the pritner is not usb connected.

Start, control panel, programs and features, Dell V305w Printer, uninstall.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed.Manual Printer Driver Removal

With the computer online, insert the printer disk, choose additional computer, then follow the instructions.

Hi Rick.

The printer is wired, and I am using Norton 360.
