I usually recommend disconnecting the printer, un-installing the printer, then restarting the computer. Then I recommend installing the proper drivers, you'll get prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)
There is an issue with the Studio 1536 and maybe this will pretain to you, also. Try reading this article and let me know if it works. If that doesn't work, let me know if you have this installed on your computer, NVIDIA's Network Access Manager.
Hi Rick, I tried uninstalling the printer, disconnecting the USB connection to the printer, and re-installing the 64 bit version of the drivers from Dell support numerous times. I also tried uninstalling the printer, then re-connecting the USB cable and having Windows detect the device and go out and find the drivers. Each time, everything looks fine until I try to print. Then I get a "Communication Not Available" message box.
I tried to re-install Windows Vista over my existing installation using the Dell CD's that came with the laptop, then I downloaded and applied all of the updates for this machine from the Dell website. I tried to install the printer again with the same results.
Next I loaded device manager and uninstalled all of the USB device drivers, re-booted and allowed Vista to reinstall all of the drivers. I then tried to reinstall the 64 bit drivers for the V305 printer, and still the same results.
I don't have the AMD USB Audtio Drive Filter listed in my Programs and Features listing, and I don't think I have the NVIDIA's Network Access Manager installed.
Do you know of anything else I can try? The printer support person I spoke to at Dell recommended that I contact a Dell computer support person and have him walk me through a complete reformat and repartitioning of my drive and a fresh installation of Vista. That seems a little drastic and time consuming to me.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Starting at the bottom, USB Root Hubs, and working your way to the top, USB Universal Controllers, un-install everything in that section.
Restart your computer. Windows will find everything again and correct the problem one. Please be patient. The new hardware wizard may work 3-5 minutes before it's done.
Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
I'm not sure which step it was. I'd already applied the latest Windows updates, and I've got it set for automatic updates. I've got Visual Studio 2008 installed, and I had already applied the latest service packs.
My Java was out of date, and I applied the latest changes.
Another thing I did this time that I didn't do before, was after I uninstalled the V305 drivers, I searched the registry and deleted all registry entries with "V305" in it.
Then I pulled down a copy of the latest drivers again, uninstalled all of the USB drivers, re-booted, reinstalled the V305 drivers, and this time I was able to print a test page with no problems.
It probably was the Java update, or it could be that I had to eliminate all traces of V305 in the registry, or both, but it's finally resolved.
I have this problem. The Dell V305 will not communicate with my new laptop Studio 15 running Vista 64. The printer works with my XPS running vista 32 bit. I have not yet tried the above to fix the problem, and I would be worried the Registry still contains instructions for the Dell V305. Also, this is the second V305 that Dell has sent. The first one was fried and would not even turn on. Is there any simple solution?
EUREKA! I followed the above and printed a page from the Dell V305. I did have a problem, because the system seemed to still have a Dell V305 and a Dell V305(copy1) -- so I deleted the Dell V305. I think that came about when I attached the USB cable during setup - it said that was recommended, even though I opted for the wireless connection.
I also allowed full access in McAfee for the printer divices, as I had seen this on other posts.
I have a new Dell Inspirion 15 laptop 64-bit machine. Spent over 2 hours downloading drivers - it prints and copies but does not scan. Any hints? I was unable to click on the selection to create the Dell toolbox on the desktop on the last page of the install which is how I got to the scanner. Is the Dell V305 not compatible with a 64-bit machine?

Mark,
Let's just see if you have the printer installed correctly.
First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.
Disconnect your printer.
Un-install your printer.
Restart your computer.
Download the proper drivers.
XP Drivers
Vista 32-bit Drivers
64-bit Drivers
All other drivers
Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

rlauder21,
I guess this means that you got it working, correct?

knahs,
Try using the instructions at...
V305 & V305w All-In-One Printer owners thread
All the instructions are there.
