Grandma9,

What type of security are you using in your wireless router? What channel?

How to login to your wireless router

Make and model of your computer and operating system? 32-bit or 64-bit?

Is the V305w using the wireless adapter in the printer or connected with a USB Cable?

Type of security for router - WEP 128.
My computer is a Dell Studio laptop, 32-bit, using Vista, and the v350w Dell printer is wireless, but I couldn't get it to print when I connected it with the USB.
Thanks for your help.

I have a Dell Studio 1735. When I can't print the ink-level indicator shows ? in both color and black columns. I haven't tried copying when the printer communication problem comes up. Thanks for your help.

 wolftree,

The printer should be able to copy on it's own. If it does not, then it's most like a Dell Series 9 ink cartridge sensor that may be faulty. If the printer can copy, then I can walk you through reinstalling the printer.

 wolftree,

Can you copy a document under the glass? B&W and Color?

Which model of Studio do you have, there are many.

Right now the printer communication is working - ink level indicators showing properly - so I can't do that test. Today when I tried to print something, the graph showing transfer of data to printer stopped at 20%.  I restarted the computer and the printer produced the document. I always use the Dell installation CD when I have printer problems, once I reinstalled but usually I check the "repair software" button. Were you referring to uninstalling and reinstalling the printer using the CD or the Dell web site?

wolftree,

Try these tweaks. It sounds like Windows turned off the devices to save power.

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Restart your computer.

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager). Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
