Dell V505 all in one printer

Question

I have this printer works great use it all the time since i got it last year but i have never been able to send a fax. I work for phone company so yes i have checked all the connections and lines. I have my phone line going through broadband. I used an old brother fax machine using exact  phone cord and wall jack and it works it dials and connects every time. I use my dell fax directly,from the machine nothing to do with my computer i put paper in dial # on the dell v505 machine and it tells me the # cannot be recognized. and then tries again the spits paper out saying the fax didnt go through. I need help/ I called tech support once was on phone for over an hour got nowhere but dell wanting to charge me for tech support. I know warranty ran out but i never tried to use fax while i had warranty and now that my wife needed it its warranty ran out and cant get it to work. Your setup should be...

wall > isp modem/router > wireless router(if any) wired/wireless

A DSL Filter must be on all devices, phones, answering machines, faxes, etc..., everything except the DSL Modem/router

You may share a DSL Filter.

Wall > DSL Filter > splitter > multiple devices

Well thanks for that but like i said i know how to install equipment, I work for phone company and install phonelines all day. I went and purchased a canon mx340 all in one wireless fax,scanner, copier,printer and works great now why wont the dell v505 work, thats 2 different brands that i used both worked fine to send and recieve, but when i hook the dellv505 up exactly the same way with same cords, no luck. It has to be settings on the unit itself ,so if anyone knows how to fix my problem not how to connect the unit that would be great.
