I am not sure how to check the copy settings - I presume the scan settings are those that come up when using the scan in Dell Imaging Toolbox - I always set these to A4 for example when scanning A4

Hilbuck,

Check the printers scan and copy settings. Make sure the proper paper and size are selected.

Thanks for that - I have checked through the settings and they are correct, i.e. A4 etc

Hilbuck,

Paper is the correct size. You didn't change the zoom size to a bigger size, correct?

Start, control panel, printers, your printer, printer preferences. Look there and make sure the proper size is selected.

Also open the program that is used to scan. Check those settings, too.

I have not touched the zoom etc.  The scanned or copied image is the correct size, just seems to have moved down the page so that you lose the top of the image and get part of the internal works of the printer reproduced. It's as if the internal scanning/copying device has moved off centre or something.

Hilbuck,

Are you using the ADF or putting the document on the glass? Do you get the same results?

I always put the paper on the glass. I just tried the ADF for a copy and that worked OK.  I am trying to do a scan, but my system seems to have hung. This sometimes happens when using Imaging Toolbox and I have to turn everything off and restart my pc (which is a real pain).

Also, is it possible to save my favourite setting for Copy on the V505 - I usually us black + draft, but I always have to re-enter them.

Many thanks for your help.

Hilbuck,

First, what are you trying to copy on the glass? If it's a light document, try putting a dark paper or another white paper behind the document.

I didn't get the chnace to use Dell Imaging Toolbox, but in the Dell All-In-One Center and Dell Printer Home, I don't think you can save the favorite copy settings, unless the printer can save them.

Hi Rick

It is not a problem of quality of scan, etc. - it is that the scanner sometimes misses the top portion of the paper on the glass and scans the inside of the machine, i.e. the metal part inside, not the white on the reverse of the lid that closes over the paper to be scanned.

I don't know how else to describe it.

Thanks.

Hilbuck,

When you lay something on the glass, it cuts off the top.

Lay a dar piece of paper, leave just a crack visable then try it. I think the scanner is only seeing the words.

If that works, then you may want to try adjusting the scan settings.
