Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Starting at the bottom, USB Root Hubs, and working your way to the top, USB Universal Controllers, un-install everything in that section.
Restart your computer. Windows will find everything again and correct the problem one. Please be patient. The new hardware wizard may work 3-5 minutes before it's done.
Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)
Scanning
Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.
Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.
Okay, I was able to run the setup for the R146832 driver, but when it gets to the point where it should download the software, it tells me that my USB device is not recognized. I had it unplugged and only plugged it in when prompted, but then it is not recognized. I am using a McAfee firewall, but that doesn't seem to be causing any problem--it never has before now either. So this is the spot where I get stopped every time. I tried a different USB cable, too, but that didn't help. I am just not sure what else to try at this point.
Disconnect the printer, run the patch(a MUST with Vista), restart your computer, try the device manager items in the above post, restart your computer, Install the proper drivers.
***Vista 32-bit drivers do NOT work on 64-bit systems. There is different drivers for 64-bit systems.***
It's possible your operating system needs repaired.
The method to repair an operating system varies with computer manufacturers. Dell Computers seem to do this better that HP/Compaq. Make copies of all files and folders that you CANNOT afford to lose. This should be a normal practice.
Insert the disk and restart your computer.
Press any key to boot from the CD.(If the CD does NOT boot, then go to the bios, press F1 on bootup and change the boot sequence)
Choose install
Do the agreement
Now choose repair. Let the computer do it's thing. A Dell takes about 30 minutes. HP/Compaq take 3 hours or more. Unknown about other computer makers.
Install these drivers in this order. Most are on a separate drivers disk.
Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software Chipset or SMBus driver Processor Driver (if applicable) Video Audio (sound) Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse) Modem Network Card
Get all your Windows Updates again. I have the custom updates too, especially the net framework which is needed to run many applications. Get the latest Java.
Now try disconnecting the printer, run the patch, restart the computer, install the proper drivers and connect the printer when prompted.
Hi. I'm absolutely desperate. I bought a compaq presario CQ70 2 years ago. Last year i changed from vista to seven with an official version. Then I was given the AIO 926. After long, very long search I finally found a good driver for 7 which was the vista driver at that time. It worked fine. But when I changed from 32 bits to 64 the problems arrived. I've tried EVERYTHING you suggested and nothing worked. Always the same: installation running, and when I close the test window (doesn't work) I had 6 windows, each saying your driver is not installed. I returned to 32 to have my printer back. Now I have the same problem in 32. NOTHING WORKS!!!!!!!! What do you suggest? Dell on line help (phone) prposes to have an access to my computer and try to fix. But they ask for 100 euros to do that. I can't afford. It's the price of a good printer these days. And I want to keep my 926 which is in very good condition with new expensive cartridges. Help! I'm going really mad.
first, thank you for your quick answering. so. I did not remove anything when I installed windows 7 home premium edition. I followed your instructions so far but I don't
know how to remove the product ID inside the c/win/system32/cmd.exe shell. could you give me the instructions step by step? unfortunately windows is chinese for me.
thx in advance. (my AV is avast in full version.)
A detail: I just had the french on line help by phone. When I ask how to remove the product ID they tell me to remove the printer in the device manager. I did it already. So far I cleaned the computer with Dellxpcleanup then removed manually the printer in the printer and device manager. Detail 2: my windows 7 is a full installation from dvd I did yesterday, not un upgrade. Waiting for your reply.
My computer is unfortunately a compaq presario CQ70. For my operating system, I saw in the compatibility when downloading the driver for win 7 64 that it is not compatible with not english OS version. How do I check the language version of my OS? (sorry for the ignorance, I told you I'm far from beeing a geek). However, I reinstalled fully win 7 32 and I don't see any language compatibility problem. in have no more dell file in c/program files since I used the dell cleaning tool.. Waiting. (The driver not working is the R146832 of course.)
If you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here, I can determine how to install the printer. Another forum member has figured out how to make this happen.
I've been looking for another member's post telling me how to remove the product ID, but I didn't find it. Could you point the post for me? For the informations, is there a way to copy/paste from the system shell? Thank you for your patience.

I did all you said but it says 'you driver has not been installed'. It keeps saying that.
It worked once in the past, but it prints the test sheet, but nothing after!
What can I do? Thank you.

arnosadic,
When you installed Windows 7, did you install the chipset drivers first?
Try running Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here.
Also include the virus program and firewall you're using.

arnosadic,
This is a Dell Computer, correct? If yes, did you install the drivers in order? How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
You have a French Operating system installed?
Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit?
Do you see anything at...
(C:\Program Files\Dell 926\Drivers)
