Event ID 6161 Error with 966 Printer

Hi All,

Just got a new Inspiron 6400 running Windows XP Home, also bought DELL 966 printer. The issue is that when I connect the USB printer to the laptop, it detects the printer then I start the install process with provided CD. At the end of the installation if I try to print I got an error in the event viewer. The error is the following:

Event ID: 6161
Source: Print

Error Message:blah blah... Win32 Print Processor Error : 0 (0x0)

And the dell printing utility shows a communication error with Continue and Cancel Printing buttons.

hi..sounds like you're having problem with USB memory key... there might be a red X listed on the event viewer of your XP system.looks like that the system recognizes that the USB memory key is no longer connected and also the driver is not present on the event viewer or on the removable storage.just check it if there is a red X on your USB memory key.
my suggestion is you can go ahead and visit the support site of microsoft. i think it is support.microsoft.com and just search that particular error message that you got.i'm not really sure about this...hope this information helps you..:smileywink:

You should not connect the printer to the PC until the install program tells you.  If you connected it first that is your problem and in that case use the System Restore and restore to a date prior to first connecting the printer.  Then start over, running the installation CD and ONLY when the install program tells you then connect the printer.

If you connect it first, either wrong drivers will be installed or the install will fail.
