fax error dell 962 all in one

Yesterday I was home when a fax was trying to come in. On printer scrolled something to the effect "try a different external fax machine". The fax did NOT come through. The activity report shows "remote fax error" three different times from that number.
I have a Dell Dimension 8200, windows XP Home Ed. Printer has a line filter on it because of my DSL. I am wondering how many other faxes I have missed.

Hi
Try this

A) Disable error correction on the 962 printer.

To disable error correction on the 962 printer, perform the following steps:

  1. Press the Menu button on the operator panel 15 times until Advanced Fax is displayed on the LCD and press Select.
  2. Press Menu 16 times until Error Correction is displayed.
  3. Press the Right Arrow button until Off is displayed and press Select.

B) Lower the baud rate that the 962 printer uses to fax.

Lower the speed the modem in the 962 printer will use to connect to remote fax machines:

  1. Ensure the printer is in fax mode by pressing the Mode button until the Fax LED is illuminated.
  2. Press the Menu button 15 times until Advanced Fax is displayed on the LCD and press Select.
  3. Press the Menu button 15 times until Max Send Speed is displayed on the LCD.
  4. Press the left arrow button until 14,400 is displayed on the LCD and press Select.
