HP Printer driver install failure
Hi there, I have two Dell lap tops (XPS and Inspiron both 17 and 64 bit running Windows 7) and two HP wireless printers. All four connect to my BT Home hub for broadband wireless connection.
The problem is that both lap tops have been getting messages saying that HP drivers are being installed and at the end it says installation failed. I am not having any problems at all with either of the HP printers and after checking both printers it says the software/drivers are up to date!!!
I don't want to interfere with something that isn't broken but keep getting these installation failures - does anyone know what I should do?

Alemap54,
A stuck print job in the queue, will allow you to uninstall/reinstall the printer but the problem will remain. So running Delete Print Jobs on each computer, since the print jobs spools on the computer that sent the print command, needs cleared.
On the problem computers...
Run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.
Make sure the printer is not usb cable connected.
Start, control panel, programs and features, your HP Printer, uninstall.
Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
This should give you a clean start with installing the printer.
If the printer has a disk, insert the disk and follow the instructions.
Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

Thank you but it is nothing to do with print queues - Windows is trying to update my printer DRIVER but failing to do so for some reason. As I said, the HP printer drivers are all up to date but windows is still trying (and failing) to update them!!

Alemap54,
What virus program and firewall are you using?

I am using McAfee - through BT (BT Netprotect Plus). Windows updates are working OK. It is just the two printers where Windows tries to update the drivers and I am getting a message saying code 28 drivers not installed for both printers. Both printers are working perfectly!

Alemap54,
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.
Make sure the pritners are not usb cable connected.
Start, control panel, programs and features(add/remove programs), your problem printer(s), uninstall.
Restart your computer.
Make sure the printer(s) were removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
Install the printer(s) using the printer disk or the drivers from the manufacturers website. You should get a mesage, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)
