Installing Printer catridges

Hi I have successfully installed the black printer cartridge, having taken off the tape first. When i go to print it tells me there is a printer problem. I get a message Printer Alignment and it prints out lines. It then says to take the tape off the printer cartridge, which i have already done.  This happens every time i try to print.

Can anyone help me?

 cathy85,

Make and model of your printer is helpful.

Are you using Dell Series ink cartridges, generic or refilled cartridges?

Cathy,

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Power on the printer. Open the printer and take out the Dell Series 9 Black cartridge. make sure all the tape is off the cartridge and put the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 9 color cartridge.

You are using Dell Series 9 ink cartridges, correct?

Dell Series 9 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 9 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

Black cartridge = black side(left side)          Color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side)          Color cartridge = color side(right side)

It is possible to get a Dell Series 9 cartridge with a bad sensor. Contact the place of purchase for a replacement.

Hi

Yes it is a Dell Series 9 black ink cartridge. I have followed your instructions about unplugging the printer and taking out the colour block. That hasn't worked. I do get a message when i try to align the cartridge that the colour printer cartridge is low in ink and i need to order another one. As i don't want to print in colour, i though it would be ok to leave the colour cartidge out of ink.  I now have two further questions:-

Do i have to have colour in my colour ink cartridge in order to align the black printer cartridge?

If I take out the colour ink cartridge, can i align the black printer cartridge and use the printer with only the black printer cartridge.

Thank you for your help so far.

I bought the printer cartridge from Dell.

Regards

Sheila

more information: Once the print alignment page is printed the printer will then print from my Word Document or the Internet.  Each time it has to print the print alignment page first. I am very confused.

Sheila,

You might be able to use the black cartridge for a little while but usually both cartridges are needed for the printer to function.

Start, control panel, printers, your printer, printer preferences, advanced more options. You might see the complete-a-print options to allow the black cartridge to print in black and white.

Also while you're there try checking the box...

Select the proper box.
