The OCR program is in the drivers listed below. You have to follow the instructions as listed below to completelt remove the printer, restart your computer and re-install the printer drivers with all of its programs.

Disconnect your printer. Download and run the Vista Patch. It will completely remove the printer from your system Restart your computer.

Now go to drivers and downloads/select product/printers/select your printer. Download drivers and firmware.

Install your printer drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect it.

Then install the firmware.

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

I just connected my Dell A920 All in One printer to my new Inspiron 1525 computer.  It was only printing at first and wouldn't scan.  I found the solution in this forum that several people posted.  I unplugged the printer, downloaded the patch to remove the printer completely, restarted the computer, installed the new drivers for Vista.  It will scan now but the problem is I can only save to "file".  If I click to save to microsoft word, it tells me I need to have the OCR from a disc.  Obviously the OCR was not in the drivers that I installed.  I have done this procedure twice and I do not get any OCR from the drivers listed as links in this forum.  Any suggestions?  Also, if I click on "save image to computer" and then click "save to desktop", the scanned item is not appearing on the desktop--it is nowhere to be found.  Any ideas on this problem as well?  Thanks for your help.

Hi, I just tried this link but it appears to be to a different product than 2 years ago.  I'm hoping you can help me find OCR software to allow me to use my scanner with Windows 7.  I have a Dell A920 printer, and the print function is working, but I cannot get it to scan and need to be able to do so for school.  Thanks!!

 slightlygeeky,

The OCR Program is on the printer disk. You'll have to install it in the Compatibility mode

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Or

Try Simple OCR
