Go to the frequently asked questions at the top of the page and select paper jams. It covers everything.

Ginettehb,

Can follow these steps to resolve the issue. If the issue gets resolved by these steps thats well and good, if not can contact the Dell Technical Support for further help (1-800-624-9896).

1. Turn off the printer and open the printer cover and look out for any stuck paper inside the printer...if you do find any...plz go ahead and remove it and then turn the printer back on.

2. Also look out for any disturbances in the paper tray i.e remove all the paper from the input tray and inspect for any obstructions. The obstructions can be anything such as paper pieces, staples, pen caps, pencil or tape etc. After removing the visible obstructions goahead and turn the printer on.

3. Then adjust the paper guides of the printer to the proper positon i.e adjust to the paper size as it normally reduces the paper causing jam.

4. Start using a different set of paper in the printer. And also go to the control panel and chk whether there are any pending documents. You can find this out by right clicking on the printer icon. If you do find any please go ahead and cancel those documents.

5. Ensure the paper tray is not overfilled with papers...try to put a min number of papers and also reseat the power adapter.

6. Also check the positon of the encoder strip on the Dell printer i.e turn the printer off and slide the cartridge carrier to the " left of middle " inside the printer. Grasp the top part of the carriage belt and move it gently to the left. And also place a finger under the encoder strip on the right side of the cartridge carrier and check if the encoder strip has slipped out of the guide.

7. If you feel it has slipped out or not in a proper positon then using an index finger gently push encoder strip down and then back up, to get it back into the slot located on the back of the ink cartridge carrier. Gently press the strip first to the rear, and then forward, to ensure that it is seated correctly. Manually move the ink cartridge carrier to the left, then to the right, to check the positioning of the encoder strip. Once it is done...then go ahead and turn the printer on and chk.

After doing all these steps...if still the issue is not resolved, then plz contact the dell technical support...so that they can provide you the necessary support.

Thnx & Regards,
