Printer spooler problems after upgrading to Windows 7
Hi,
I have recently upgraded from Vista Home Premium 64 bit to Windows7 Home Premium 64 bit. Everything seems to have gone according to plan, except for the printers. When upgrading I had a HP Photosmart C6280 All-in-One printer installed. After upgrading it did not work, I guess due to invalid printer drivers, and Windows attempt to find and install new ones failed. After downloading 311 MB new Windows7 printer software from HP I tried to reinstall the printer software and drivers. However, it did not work because the HP installation program reported that the printer spooler was not started. I have tried all possible things that I can come up with to start the printer spooler, without any success. It seems like the printer spooler software for some reason have been corrupted by the old printer drivers that was installed on Vista before upgrading. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?? The error code when trying to start the printer spooler is 1053 (in Swedish – “Tjänsten svarade inte på start- eller kontrollbegäran I tid”). Thank you /Solhaga

Just a thought but when trying to load the HP software make sure that you disable your antivirus program and shut down your firewall also. I had a simular issue with trying to install a HP printer on my laptop and doing this solved the problem

Solhaga,
In addition to Dave's GREAT advise, try disconnecting the printer. Uninstall the printer, then restart your computer.
Download the Vista Drivers from HP's Website, if needed. Try installing the Vista Drivers in the compatibility mode, I used Vista SP2.
Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista. Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)

Thank you for your advise. Unfortunately I still cannot get it to work. To be able to come any closer to a solution I have to get the printer spooler to start. I still haven't found any solution to this problem. I think I have managed to uninstall the Vista version of the printer software. However, since I cannot get the spooler to start I cannot install the Windows7 version of the printer software and drivers. /Solhaga

Solhaga,
Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type
services.msc
Hit enter. Look for dlcj_service or something similar and make sure it's set for automatic and restart the service. Do the same for the Print Spooler. Make sure it's on automatic and restart the service.
