Printer Status Window Interface has stopped Working
I have a Dell 966 and a Dell Inspiron 530S and when I print, I get this message Printer Status Window Interface has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
I need HELP !!, sometimes it will print and sometimes it will not.

naburt,
Can you please tell me how you are connecting with the 966 printer. Wired, wireless print server or using the wireless card in the printer.

I'm getting the same message. I am running Vista. As far as how I am connected... I am supposed to be wireless but haven't been able to get my new computer on Vista to work wirelessly. I have been printing via a USB. I need to get the printer working and get it working wirelessly. Thanks

Dean,
Please follow the instructions below and then tell me what happens. Before you install the drivers, please read the section on how to connect the wireless printer.
I recommend that you use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings for the best communications.
First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.
Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch

to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch, a MUST on Vista machines, until it prompts you to restart your computer.
Restart your computer.
Download the proper drivers.
XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers
64-bit Drivers

All other drivers
Install the proper drivers, you'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)
As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

How Do I Connect a Dell™ Wireless Printer to a Wireless Network
Choose your printer. Beneath your printer, select your operating system. You'll be redirected to another page. Then click on show all steps. It will walk you through the installation process.
Let me know what happens and how you're connected.

Dean,
Did you use WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security (Personal)?
Mixed mode b and g, n if available?
Channel 1, 6 or 11. I use channel 11.
I do NOT have a 966 printer but I have a 964 printer connected to a Dell Wireless Printer Adapter 3300 which works similar to your printer.
This step seems to be very important.

The printer is now working with a USB again. Thanks! However, i was following the steps to set up wireless and got towards the end. It tells me to choose "Wireless Setup Utility" and that doesn't exist. I only have "Printer Setup Utility", and I don't see a wireless option within that.

Rick,
I have no idea. Am I supposed to be running that kind of security? How do I check and how do I change it?
Once that is done, will the wireless show up or will have to do everything over again?

Dean,
How to login to your wireless router , My sister forgot her password to her wireless router. I had to plug an ethernet cable into her wireless router, press and hold the reset button in the back of the wireless router for 30 seconds. This takes it back to factory settings. I then eneterd the default gateway into the address bar and logged in ad used the settings below.
and
Recommended Wireless Router Settings
These are the settings I use. I use channel 11.

Those are the settings I have on my router.
The problem is the Wireless Setup Utility is non-existant on my computer after running the new install with the software you gave me for Vista 64 bit. The Printer Setup Utility is in my Start/All Programs/Dell Printers/Dell Photo AIO Printer 966, but the Wireless one is not there. And it didn't automatically find it and set it up when I installed the new software either. I can print with a USB but not wirelessly.

Dean,
After you ran the patch as administrator, you needed to open the 64-bit drivers. It probably only unzipped and sat there. Look for the setupo.exe file and right click on it, then left click run as administrator. It should then ask you to setup the printer. Choose network, it may or may not have the option to answer that printer has a wireless card. If it doesn't then click add and if the option is not there, choose the option that the printer is connected to a wireless print server. Then it should find your printer, if the setup in the printer is correct.
You might have to run the patch as administrator, one more time, then restart your computer and install the 64-bit drivers using the instructions above.

No, I did exactly what you are saying. I ran the setup.exe file in the R165704 file that was downloaded when I clicked on the 64 bit from the Dell site where it says:
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
Once I do that and run the setup.exe file it asks me if I want to install it through a USB port or a wireless network. I have tried it BOTH ways and it doesn't matter. No other questions are asked, it installs and asks me to do a test print. When I do the test print with a USB it works. When I do the test print wirelessly, it doesn't work. It gives me an error message telling me Communication Not Available. After I tell it I don't want to send info to Dell and hit Finish. This brings up the Dell All-In-One Center which seems to have nothing to help me with the wireless setup. I don't think I am doing anything wrong or missing any steps. It's fairly simple. It just isn't installing the wireless portion on my computer for some reason. You are welcome to log into my computer and do it yourself to see that it's done correctly. You can reach me on Yahoo messenger at dcj4him for us to discuss that if you like.

I haven't heard back from anyone. Has a fix been found to get my printer wireless?
