Printer V505 won't receive faxes

Question

This is the second printer that I cannot receive faxes on. Had a 946 - called Dell and tech went through a few steps and the printer wouldn't even turn on. Tech said my firmware was bad. So I ended up ordering a new printer. Got the V505. Asked someone to fax to me. It worked. That was in September. Now I can't received faxes. I can scan, print and fax out. This is the same thing the 946 was doing.

I don't want to call Dell and have anything happen to this printer like the last one.

Printer's fax line is hooked into my tower. And the line from the tower is hooked into the phone jack. I have tried hooking the phone line directely into the wall jack from the printer. It's a seperate phone line and supposed to be analog. I got a DSL filter just in case to try that. Nothing has helped.

I have to pay extra for an online fax service because I cannot get this to work.

Rick, I tried all of this. It's from the manual that came with the printer. Like I said I received a fax when I first set it up. It was working perfectly. Now I can't receive a fax.

I tried hooking up the printer directly to the phone jack. With and without the DSL filter. Doesn't work.
