Well, I followed carrefully the instructions (I ran the setup with vista SP2 compatibility) and it still says :"The Dell photo AIO 926 printer is not installed. Please reinstall your printer driver."
That was great. Sometimes when upgrading to Windows 7, the chipset drivers need installed, again.
Try disconnecting the printer. Run the patch, it's a printer cleanup utility. Also make sure the printer is gone. Manual Printer Driver Removal
Restart your computer.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Starting at the bottom, USB Root Hubs, and working your way to the top, USB Universal Controllers, un-install everything in that section.
Restart your computer. Windows will find everything again and correct the problem one. Please be patient. The new hardware wizard may work 3-5 minutes before it's done.
After the New Hardware Wizard finds everything, then try installing the Vista Drivers in the compatibility mode.
Right click on the drivers file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista. Then right click on the drivers, left click run as administrator.
***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

johnbober,
To install the pprinter on Windows 7, you'll need to install the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode. Please follow the instructions located at...
926 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)
Then tell me what happens.

johnbober,
Remember that firewalls and virus programs do not always allow printer communications and they need to be allowed past them.
