Some models of inkjet printers use 1 ink cart to make all colors and black. Dells model 810 does this. I'm not sure of the other models that do but the 725 may be one of them. The ink cart head probably needs to be cleaned. Remove the ink cart. Soak in 1/2 inch of warm water for 15 minutes. Blot bottom of ink cart with a clean paper towel. Replace ink cart and retry printing.
I can buy that theory if only a few people had this problem.
However there are many people with exact issue including myself.
here is dells take on the issue.

I have read your mail and I would like to inform you that the 725 is a color printer, but it has only one cartridge ? a color cartridge. It still needs to print black. But since it does not have a separate black cartridge, it must create black as a composite of cyan, magenta, and yellow. The composite black may not be ideal. It will probably include light hues of the other primary or composite colors. These colors may even appear to bleed out of the black.High fiber media may exacerbate this effect.
Because the 725 is a low-end color printer, print quality has been sacrificed to reduce cost. Having only a single cartridge means that your customers only have to incur the cost of replacing one cartridge at a time. In return, they should not expect the same print quality that they would receive from a photo printer.
Having the same problem with Dell 725 Inkjet printer not printing in black, it comes out green instead. What have you done to solve this problem, IF anything can be done that is????:smileyindifferent:
They sent me a replacement too, but it did the same thing. The problem was the ink cartridge...it was bad. When I put the ink cartridge that came with the replacement in BOTH printers, it did in fact print in black. It is a weak black, but it proves it isn't the printer. The best fix is to order a solid black print cartridge to replace the color one. That is what I am going to do.
That's all that I could find too was the 725 tri color cartridge, which says "Also Prints Black" :smileyvery-happy: So might try a brand new cartridge as Mulaka73 suggested. Thanx to everyone for their replys!!!! :smileyhappy:
