sznnnic,

Thank you for visiting the Dell Community Forum.

I am sorry but based off of the information in this post, it would be difficult for someone to provide any specific technical or trouble-shooting information pertaining to your question. Please reply and include a detailed and specific description of your issue or question including as much information as possible. This can include (but is not limited to) a step-by-step walk through of the process that you are following, when the error message appears and the exact text of any error messages or responses that you get. Please be as detailed and specific as possible, the more information provided concerning the issue/question, the more likely someone will have applicable advice.

One basic thing to try when ever you have a problem installing the software is to uninstall all printer software/drivers, remove any other printers or USB devices, restart and then try reinstalling the A940 software fresh and see if that make any difference.

Hi,

I have the same problem.  It occurs during the installation of printer drivers.  When I use the Add Printer Wizard (Windows XP Pro), It automatically installs the drivers from the CD.  It gets through the entire installation, then at the very end, it says "Error occured during installation: The specified module cannot be found."

I have tried restarting my computer, and I have tried it on both CD-ROM drives.  I have also used the Add Hardware Wizard, and tried using the install included on the CD.  None of these solutions work.

Help, please?

Thanks.

I am also having this problem!!! I boot up the computer and the Found New Hardware Wizard detects my Lexmark X6170. I click next to install automatically from the CD which is already in the CDROM. It gets 99% of the way through the install, including loading what appears to be all necessary files, and then I get this message:

PLEASE let me know what module is it looking for so I can FIND it....

Thank you.

Although I'm a huge Dell fan for many years, I couldn't help but be (sadly) amuzed that it took less than 24hours for Dell support to reply to the first message that there wasn't enough info in the request for support. Now it's been a couple weeks with very specific information (nice job on the screen capture ) regarding this very recreatable problem from multiple people and no replies at all.

I'm an IT manager with 15 yrs troubleshooting PC's and sadly I've have the same problem with one of my end-user pc's for almost 2 weeks and have been unable to resolve it (because I hate format/reload). It started when the user ran Windows Update and installed the "drivers" updates (side note: only use 'critical updates from microsoft... "recommended" and especially "drivers" can be the kiss of death).

I have since done a Win XP restore to mutliple dates and even to when the Dell PC was brand new (months before the Windows update fiasco) and it still crashes every time that I add any manufacturers printer with the same error. I have been unable to find a resolution online and so far this thread is the closest info I find.

Sure would be nice if Dell could help us figure out this (most likely) Microsoft problem. Gonna have to bite the bullet and completely reload the end-users computer pretty soon if I don't find a resolution.

Good luck,

George

Yeah, I've never found Dell Support to be very helpful.

I did manage to get my printer installed, when one day it just magically worked.

I printed a few pages, and it worked fine, then I tried to print something a few days later, and it couldn't detect my printer.

I've narrowed the problem down to "bidirectional support".  When my printer was installed, I went into preferences and enabled bidirectional support for my printer (necessary for printer/scanner combos).  I clicked apply, then ok.  I went back into the preferences, and it had disabled itself again.

I've never had this much trouble solving a problem on this computer before.

If there is any company in Atlanta who would like to hire me in tech support please email me at jaybee@bellsouth.net I have five years of technical support experience. I ran into the same problem as was discussed here, The specified module could not be found. Something caused my printer not to work at all, So I had to attempt to reinstall the printer.

I used the following procedure.

1. Under "Run" (I browsed for A960net.exe) on the Dell Drivers and Utilities disk.

2. Then, I used the Unistall printer button. I thought that it would unistall every thing that the disked installed. But it only uninstalled the printer.

3. Remove the Drivers and Untility Disk.

4. Turn the computer completely off.

5. Removed the USB line from the back of my computer, and disconnected myself from the internet.

6. Turned the computer back on.

7. Then I removed the following prefetch files

DLBFJSWX.EXE
DLBFPSWX.EXE
DLBFAIOX.EXE
DBFBMGR.exe
A960NET.EXE
LEXBCES.EXE

Even after you've unistall the programs the prefetch files are still there.

8. Removed following programs whether they are the cause or not. (Paint Shop Pro, Dell Image Expert, and Dell Picture Studio)

Remove the programs using ADD or Removed programs in the Control Panel. Also removed the folders that you where these programs once existed. The object was to unistall everything that the Dell Drivers and Unitilies Disk installed.

9. Also which might have been the cause in the first place, I checked my "msconfig" program. To do that you have to go to "Run and type "msconfig" Under the Services tab I found that the Lexmart International Server was unchecked. I placed a check there, because I wasn't sure that unchecking it was the problem in the first place. You see, I replaced my Lexmart Printer X73 with a Dell A960 Printer. So I thought I didn't need anything that was title Lexmart.

10. Logged off to restart/reboot the computer.

11. When the compter comes up, turn on the printer and then connected the USB cable back to the your PC.

12. Then insert the Drivers and untility Disk, reinstalled all the programs and print a test page.

Hello Jaybee,

If I had a business in Atlanta and needed a support person I would hire you in a flash.  I live way north in Minnesota and it is just me, my dog and 4 cats - but I hope you can use this 'review' to your benefit.  I had never officially joined the Dell Forum but did so just to let you know how much your post helped me.

I had been fighting with the A940 printer problem since 5:15 AM this morning.  Not for myself but for a client.  I have never seen anything like it.  Finally at around 1:00 PM I found your posting.  It worked like a charm.

Your instructions were easily understandable - no questions like "now what did he mean?" etc.

Because of the poor quality of support on Dell's part I will not purchase their extended support for my clients - it is too bad they couldnt have ppl like you on their support staff.

Thank you very much.

I am going to post this fix in the main printer forum under a new Subject unless you tell me not to.

I would be curious to see (but not going to fool with it now) if checking the lexmark box in the msconfig w/o uninstalling all the software programs (other than the prefetched files) would enable the printer to work.
