There will never be a TWAIn-over-Network function for the 1815dn!

Hello everybody,

reading through this forum one will find a lot of complaints about the missing TWAIN-over-Network function for the Dell 1815dn.

I strongly guess that there will never be one.

Today I had a converstion with the SAMSUNG-Support about their SCX-5530FN, which is in fact the 1815dn with a different user panel. Also SAMSUNG is the actual manufacturer of the 1815dn.
I asked them about the TWAIN-over-Network function on the SCX-5530FN and they said, there is intentionally none and propably will never be because it's something their customers don't ask for. All of the samsung MFCs are working the push-from-device way.

So I think there will never be "TWAIN-over-Network" for the 1815dn also (unles there would be a really huge amount of requests for it).

probably not. not on the 1600N either. the printer is meant to be shared on a network so most people are going to initiate scans from the printer itself.

Hi,

There is already a twain over network function for both printers but the software that dell shipped with the printer is not a professional version the application for this feature is called Desktop Delivery if you open your paperport software and go to help search for this application and you will find what does this application do but in odrder to use it you need to have the Paperport Professional 10.

@SEKHIJO:

That's not meant by the term "TWAIN". Twain is a standard scanning-interface in windows world. With it you can scan from e.g from your graphics-application or MS Word etc. running the twain software provided with your scanner. After a preview scan you can select the parts of your document you want to scan. The way the 1815dn (and 16000N) works, you always have to scan the whole paper and send it through the network to your computer.

Also there is some software that only works with the twain interface, e.g. ABBY Finereader. Until now I couldn't find a way to get Finereader automatically opening documents I've scanned on the 1815dn. You can add Finereader in the Dell Network Scan Manager as a custom application, but it results in opening Finereader only but not the scanned document.

this is correct. I assume it's there if you scan over USB, but I'm sure you can see how it could get messy in a network environment.

I've to admit that's propably true.  I think I can get used to how the 1815dn works, but I would have found it better, if Dell had provided more precise information about the device. The way it is presented on the website one has to think there are no differences between USB or Network connection.
