Total Impressions/ Print Volume difference?

Each time I maintenance or repair one of my 5100cn printers I take down the page count- or at least I think it's the page count. Recently I've set up a system that keeps track of the supply life left in our printers, and I've been using the online printer settings tool to take a tally each morning.

When I take the tally, I'm using the number listed under Print Volume from the online tool. However, when I service the printers, I print out the printer settings and have been writing down the number listed under total impressions. These numbers are not the same, and I can't seem to reconcile the discrepancy. What's the difference between Total Impressions and Print Volume, and which one is the true page count? I need to adjust my tracking stats to keep some consistency.

Hi SNKEMP....

I tryed to do the same using the web interface numbers and what i finally ended up doing was to print the report from the web interface under print settings / print settings report / reports / printer settings. That report gives you the volume of black only , color only and then total overall. Add the color & black together and it is equal to the total..

The link above takes you to a report off my home printer. the items in yellow is for the total impressions. at the bottom right is the total number of paper that is put thru the printer. Being alot of what I do is duplexed, it reduces the overall print count to just paper used...

Hope it helps

Hi again

At least on mine.. the volume is different because of the duplexing. On mine I had around 3k of duplexed items that would equal 2 impressions per page. The printer counts that as 1 page in the volume catg.  Now it would be nice if the printer would tell how much paper went thru the duplexer. Then you could that the volume and add the duplexer number to equal the total impressions.

I understand about the printing of the report and running all over to collect them, but that is the only way that I have found to do it...

Yeap. it would be nice if it was there in the web report. My wife use to work in the office of a large school here. Every morning she went and took the copier and printer usage counts so the departments could be billed... What a pain..

I wish I knew how to code the firmware. That would be a nice feature to have

Hmm... I didn't think to take duplexing into account. I know most of our users don't use it, or even know about it, but I suppose that would account for the difference. In that case, Total Impressions would be the most accurate count to use for supply status.

Does anyone know if there's a way to get the Total Impressions off of the remote web report? It seems rather silly that all the other information from the Printer Settings page is available online except the amount of impressions.

Thanks for your help, by the way.

Well, I understand that much. What I'm trying to understand is the difference between the labels of "Total Impressions" and "Print Volume". My printers only use letter paper, so I don't understand why the amount of Total Impressions wouldn't match that of Print Volume. When I remote into the printers in the morning for a tally, it only gives me Print Volume. However, once I service a printer and print the settings page, I get both Print Volume and Total Impressions. I thought that the numbers were the same but they're not, and I've gotten into a snag using one from remote and another at the printer itself.

The problem with just using the web interface to print off the settings page is that my printers are scattered all over campus and I take the morning tally from my remote office, so I wouldn't see that data unless I went to the printer anyway. That kinda defeats the purpose of using an online page count tally to tell me in the morning if I need to run and replace a supply kit right away or not.
