"Unable to Communicate" AIO 922

I Have done everything I can think of except throw this printer out the window!!  Everytime I want to print something, I get the error message..."unable to communicate".  I have unplugged everything; I have reinstalled everything.  The only thing I have not done is call Dell directly and simply cuz I dont want to have to sit on hold for an hour only to hear them tell me to use the community forum for help.  I have heard this is the best way to get help.  I am desperate to fix this problem once and for all instead of having to reinstall everytime i want to print.
Also, when i am reinstalling, boxes come up saying that this system is not compatible and could cause future problems.  Meaning that the Dell AIO 922 is not compatible with Windows XP(or the other way around) but yet I researched that issue and all I can find is that you're supposed to use Windows XP with your 922.  I have never been so confused; I used to have an IBM aptiva and NEVER had any problems with anything.  I am not to terribly computer savvy so if you have suggestions for me, you may have to itterate them to me as I were a 2 yo.
Thanks much for your time.

We sympathize with your frustration.  Obviously you tried disconnecting and reconnecting everything.  Did you try restarting your computer and then uninstalling/reinstalling the printer?  We ended up doing that and it worked.  Make sure you have your CD in hand before uninstalling the printer.  Good luck.

I have a year and a half old J740 printer and am getting the same "unable to communicate" message.  I also have uninstalled/reinstalled everything and still no luck.  I refuse to believe that this is all I can get out of this printer since it is only 1 1/2 years old.  Dell Customer support suggested replacing the printer motherboard.  I have not checked into this yet but I imagine it would be easier and probably same price to just buy a new printer.  If I do have to buy a new printer, it won't be a Dell!

If you have the drivers already installed try this. Click "Start" then "Control Panel". Click "Printers & other hardware". Click "View Installed Printers". You should see the icon for the Dell Photo AIO 922. Right click on it. If one of the options says "Use printer online", click it to set it on line. If it says "Use printer off line then it's already set properly, dont click it.

If the icon is grayed out then its a sign it needs to be set to on line status.

I had the same problem when I first started using my 922.

I dont know why you are getting the errors when you try to install the software. Sounds like you had it installed once.

Hope this helps.

You may try to click on start, printers and faxes, then right click on your printer and select properties. There should be a tab called ports (You should see it at the top of the page). Click on ports. If you click on the printer tab in the box it should bring all of your printer ports to the top. Select the port that has your printer name under the printer tab and click apply. I have had problems with my Dell AIO 962 and this is how I fixed it. Hope it helps!
