Well, not only did it not work, i messed up the clearing of the spool and lost my USB Print Driver (i remember saying yes to deleting something that had USB in it).
i had to restore previous registry files (LET THAT BE A LESSON TO ALL----SAVE REGISTRY FILES!!!)
anyway, i still cannot get the CP-300 printer to print. it installs the drivers, it recognizes that the drivers are installed but it doesn't print to the printer.
i've tried different USB ports; i've tried earlier versions of the drivers; i've tried drivers located on UK server; i've scoured my drives and subdirectories and deleted all references to canon, cp cp- cp-3 cp-2----ad nausium. ive deleted the same references in the registry.
Here's instructions I usually tell everyone to do. Not sure if this will work with using the server or not but worth a try. Since you menioned about having trouble with the USB connection, try this first.
Go to Device manager.
Go to USB controllers and click on the + sign.
Starting at the bottom, un-install everything in the USB section and restart the computer. Windows fill find them again and correct any problems that didn't show when you were looking for problem devices. Now follow the instructions to install the printer.
Disconnect your printer. Go to start/programs/Canon printers and un-install your printer.
Restart your computer.
Now go to here. Download drivers, Utilities, firmware and Patches.
Install your printer. You'll be prompted when to connect it.
Install and patches next. Then the Utilities and firmware.
Most printer drivers are small. The size of the drivers file usually indicates there are programs in there that need to be installed. With a Dell printer, the drivers has teverything with it, drivers, Dell All-In-One Center and has everything you need to do to scan copy fax. They have upgrades and patches for different Operating systems. They also have firmware updates for the printers. They have to be installed via USB connection.
Thanks Rick. already done did alla that. so many times, me thinks i be slated for geekdom.
you did give me an idea though. me thinks the one file available on their site contains all the programs supplied. (I don't have the install CD any longer-el estupido moi.)
i'll do all the uninstall stuff again. clean files etc. then i will try the full load (44 meg) file. maybe some of the ancillary programs do soemthing unique.
well, the big files are updates. since i don't have the programs loaded any more and i don't have the cd anymore, i can't update the base programs.
BTW the reason i don't have them is because the first cp-200 broke. i sent it to canon and they wanted over $100 to repair it. i found a cp-300 on ebay for 35. DUH. hard decision. they problem is that i deleted all the prgroams before i bought the 300 on ebay. (and yes this cp-300 works on every other comptuer i have installed it on. it's ONLY the SC400 that it won't run on. and yes the 200 ran on this sc400 previously.)
i am pulling my hair (what little there is) out on this one.
any assistance anyone else may have, is greatly appreciated.
hmmmmmm. reinstall windows? (probably won't help this situation.)
Maybe go to run and type sfc/ scannow (space between the / and s)
Put i the XP Pro disk and have it do it's thing. Restart your computer, then try it. If still no go, then I'd consider re-installing XP Pro again. Backup your files and folders. I'd back up my drivers also, that way you don't need to look for them again. Go here and use this program, WinDriversBackup Personal Editionto backup, to backup your drivers.
