USB cable for Dell Photo Printer 720?

Hello All
I was unable to locate the answer to my question in the most recent forum items. forgive me if I missed it.

I received a free Dell Photo Printer 720 with a recent laptop purchase.
It didn't come with a printer cable which I didn't figure would be a problem.
I already had a brand new high speed usb 2.0 cable purchased locally.
I know my usb port is functional and the cable is good. (proven with other peripherals)

When I plug this cable into the printer, it does not seem to provide power for the printer and the new USB connection isn't recognized by my computer. even after a reboot.

Since this is a brand new printer, and a model I'm not familiar with.

My question is this:

Was I sent a defective printer, or do I have to purchase a  DELL specific USB cable DIRECTLY from Dell to use this particular model of printer.

thanks much,
Mark

The USB cable will NOT provide power for the 720.  There should be a separate power cord that is attached to a power brick.  This power brick should be inserted into the rear of the 720 printer.  Did you not receive this with your 720?

Nope, the power brick is 100% free!  It comes with the 720.  If for some reason you didn't receive one, one should be sent to you at no additional cost...

thanks for the reply.

I didn't receive a power brick with the printer.

I am guessing they intentionally left that out so I'd have to purchase it as an extra expense?

I'll contact Dell Sales and see what they have to say.

thank you,

Mark

thank you.

I spoke with a Dell operator. She is getting one sent out to me free of charge.

Guess the power brick just got overlooked in the shipment.

Thanks again! :)

Can anyone help? I have a dell photo printer 720.  I have an old (Dimension 8100) and a new (Dimension XPS gen 3) computer. I would like to have my 8100 computer recognize the 720 printer, but, I have seemed to misplace my original driver cd.  I cannot seem to find on dell the appropiate link to download that specific driver.  I only see the Dell Photo Printer 540 driver, nothing for the 720.  Am I missing something here?  Does anyone know where I can find that driver?

Thanks so much!

Mark.

I bought a Dell Photo Printer 720 from a friend but she didn't get a cable into printer.

I have a laptop I would like to connect.  Can you please tell me how I can get a USB cable.

Thanks

• Hi,

Welcome to the Community.

You can buy the USB cable from any of the local stores .For e.g.: Best buy, Staples, wallmart.

It’s a 6 or 10 ft. cable that works with all dell printers.

Kindly get back if there are any further queries. Glad to help.

Thanks,

Jaspreet

Marguerite,

A 4 foot usb cable should be the correct length. A usb cable too long will not allow communications. USB Ports are very low powered.
