Using a Dell 948 with a IOGear 1-Port USB 2.0 Print Server

I have a IOGear print server (1-port usb 2.0) connect to a DSL router/modem.  The print server configured correctly, I have a IP address but when I send a test page to the printer is does not print.  I do get the screen telling the percentage of the printing has to go and the print queue shows the document but then it just vanishes.  Has anyone tried using this device with a DELL XPS running Vista Ultimate and a DELL 948.

Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer.

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

All other drivers

Now, I usually recommend these wireless router settings to get everything communicating correctly.

Update the firmware in your wireless router. Manufacturer's website, make & Model needed.

Broadcast SSID(You may want to change this to make it easier to connect)

Use WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security. Most wireless devices work best with this type of security.

Mixed b and g mode(n if available)

Use channels 1, 6 or 11. Most devices work better on these channels.

Save and exit. Power everything off for 30 seconds. Power everything back on, wait 30 seconds, now try to connect.

I would then tell you to install the proper drivers, choose network, then choose using a wireless porint server and follow the instructions.

This article below is for the 948 printer, since it has wireless capabilities. Just covering all bases.

How Do I Connect a Dell™ Wireless Printer to a Wireless Network

Choose your printer. Beneath your printer, select your operating system. You'll be redirected to another page. Then click on show all steps. It will walk you through the installation process.

Thank you for the information.  I was not able to get the print server working but I at least got the printer back to working though the USB connection.

Usally the secrets t the print server are...

Broadcast SSID(I recommend changind to make connection easier)

WPA Security

Mixed Mode(b and g) n if available

Channels 1,6 or 11(I use 11)

Power everything off for 30 seconds. Turn everything on and connect.

Setup your wireless print server,

SSID, type of security, password.

Intalll the proper printer drivers, choose network, choose I'm using a wireless print server and follow the instructions.

That's all I do each time I setup mine.

Rick

Glad you got the USB Cable working. Remember you need to remove the drivers on all Vista machines and Vista Upgraded machines or the drivers don't install properly.

I bought the same Dell 948 printer. I have used two different brand name of wired, not wireless print servers. I always got the same problem: printing with no output. Same problem as described by the above user. USB connection works. I called Dell tech support, they asked me to look into Dell wireless printer server 3300. Is there a list of supported print servers for this printer? Please help.

Hello Bill,

I have a Dell AIO 810 with the GSPU21 1 port usb print server, and I am getting the same thing.  I can ping the print server and such but nothing prints.

I was looking on IOGear's website and they had a printer compatibility list and my printer wasn't on there, as yours.

http://www.iogear.com/files/pdf/GPSU21_Printer_Compatibility_List_8-27-2010.pdf

I didn't think to check that as we've used other HP jetdirects on different types of printers and figured this would be no different.

Looks like I'll be returning it unless I get a chat with iogear.

 Thanks,

Philip
